I am wondering how long it usually takes to have an appeal. I read alot of posts but I am not sure if they are referring to the time you get a letter about an appeal and the actual appeal.. Any info is greatly appreciated ...I do have a person to represent me but she hasn't returned my phone calls yet. Someone had mentioned two years , that just can't be true. My representitive said it is better to appeal because it is like within 4 months and to start another entire application takes well over one year. I am hoping I understood her right.. thanks in advance
My hubby started his appeal prcoess in May of 05 and still have not heard anything. We live in Indiana and were told in May of this year that they were just working on the ones from May of 04. Everybody says it depends on what state you are in, but we have at least another year probably before he gets his appeal hearing.
It can be a very trying time, as we have had to sell everything{including our home and move in with family} just to get by.
Good Luck
Nancy
I'm so sorry to tell you that it can take a very long time for the appeals process. I filed well over 3 years ago and just recently had my final hearing and was approved for SSD. It's a long drawn out process. Try to hang in there.
My husband's representative asked for an "on the record" decision from the ALJ and he got approved about 6 months after his denial without having to go before the judge.
In PA we have like at least 14 month wait from appeal to possible hearing per our attorney. My husband appealed in November 2005 and we still are waiting to hear something.
