Question What to do AFTER Temporary Disability is Exhausted

My Temporary Disability has become exhausted. So far, I have been guided to either apply for Social Security, or go on Welfare. I wish that I had a little warning that it was going to end....I miscalculated by doing my own math a few months ago, and thought that it was ending as of Feb. So, tis the season to stop having an income (I am not Workers Comp case).

Any suggestions? Any guidance tools? Any similar situations?

Re: What to do AFTER Temporary Disability is Exhausted

I am not sure what temporary disability is. Is it through work? If i were you I'd apply for Social Security disability immediatly. It is a long process but maybe since you have had temporary disability it will go faster for you. You could start the process on line at www.socialsecurity.gov. There is a section on disability with worksheets and online application.

Re: What to do AFTER Temporary Disability is Exhausted

I forgot every state is different.

Temp Disability is a state thing, that only lasts a short amt of time. As opposed to Permenant Disablity that is for the rest of your life. It is not through work, but through the state. I do not have anything through work.

That is cool that your state has that. All we can get in In. is medicaid and food stamps but thank god for those. I applied for ss disability 11/01 and didn't even get a hearing till 2/2003 and finally got it. I am pretty sure you have to be disabled for six months to get it but all that info is on there site again apply asap. The cool thing was I got one very large check for about 2 years worth and had a nice vacation and caught up on my bills. Good Luck and Happy holidays

You can collect Welfare until your Social Security Disability kicks in (if you win).

However, if you are applying for SUPPPLEMENTAL Social Security Disability AND collecting welfare, you will be responsible in REIMBURSING Welfare all the payments they paid you off the top of your SUPPLEMENTAL Social Security Disasbility if you win.
