the letter

Oh what a relief I finally received the letter in the mail it says
"FULLY FAVORABLE" I knew I won but to see it in writing puts my mind at ease.My attorney also said I'll get full medical coverage also so does that mean I can drop my insurance and save some money or what? What does it cost for medicare a month and do they just take it out of the monthly earnings?
So I guess if anyone who is appling for S.S. reads this note hang in there because this could happen to you also.It took me since June 2004.Yes its emotionally and financially draining, your symptoms go crazy but some how I held it together and didn't file bankruptcy but bot it was close.Well anyways good luck to all and hang in there.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!!!!
Mary

Re: the letter

God Bless you! What a wonderful addition to celebrate at this time of year. I hope and pray I too will find a favorable decision before I lose all I have.

Re: the letter

how long does it normally take to get the first check?also how do you know what health insurance you get?my attorney said i should get medicare also does that cover dental?if i understood him right it should start this summer.

when i agreed with going to Feb. 2005 instead of june 2004 to basically win at the hearing my letter said i will be get back pay August 2005.so i guess it means even if i agreed with Feb.because of the 6months waiting thats when it starts?or should i mention something to my attorney?or just be happy i won and got my letter.

Thanks all,Mary

Re: the letter

Contact your attorney & have him/her explain to you in a way THAT YOU WILL UNDERSTAND what it means to YOU by winning your case.

Your attorney is getting paid $$$$$$ off the top of YOUR settlement by Social Security Disability. Therefore, he/she should be sitting down explaining all the benefits you are entitled to, when to expect payment, yada, yada, yada.............
Each state is different. Therefore, it will be difficult for one of us to advise you "when to expect your $$$$".
As a general rule, if you elected "direct deposit" you may get your $$$ faster than if you elected $$$ by check/mail.
Direct deposit takes a few weeks & you will not be notified. Just keep checking your account every week for a *surprise*.

If the attorney is NOT doing ANY of the above, you should notify the Social Security Department ASAP IN WRITING. They WILL NOT pay him the FULL AMOUNT of his fee. In other words, YOUR settlement amount willl be bigger. You will just be obligated to pay his out of pocket expenses.
BTW, the SSD withholds 5 months not 6 unless there is something going on with your state you have not mentioned.

how do you know what health insurance you get?
Once your Medicare kicks in, you will get a booklet from them. You will also get a booklet from SSDI. Everything will be explained in the Medicare Booklet.
Each state has their own Insurance Program & Prescription Program.

Medicare does not cover dental either! However, there are ways around that. Depends on your dentist.

You may wish to check out www.medicare.gov while waiting for your booklet.

Good luck & Happy Holidays!
