I am 61 and am on ssd but I have been working 20 hours per week so far but not for long probably as am in to much pain.
I just recieved a notice telling me I was going to turn 62 soon and I should file for retirement or I may lose my benefits. I think they are are talking about retiring at 62 instead of 65.
Do I have to file for retirement early? It looks like a form letter and I hadn't planned on retiring because of disability and still need to get hips operated on when I get insurance next year.
If anyone can steer me right I sure would be greatful. I am thinking this is a way to scare people slightly? Or does everyone get this letter?

Hey Sunshine...If you don't mind me asking, when will you turn 62 and when were you approved for SSD? I'm 61 too, and my birthday is in November, but I haven't gotten a letter from SS like you have. I was approved for SSD in February, 2003, and they said at that time, I may be subject to a review in five to seven years. Next February will be the start of my fifth year and I'll be 62.

If you can, call the local SS office and see what you can find out about this. I would really appreciate and info you can pass along.

Well I will be 62 in October so it is just around the corner for me. I got my ssd in Dec or really Jan of 07.
I guess I will have to call them or go over there this week and ask what is going on. When I do I will post it you. Thanks for posting anyway.

Hi Sunshine...One point I wanted to mention to you, is that while we are eligible for early retirement at 62, we can't receive our full benefits until age 66. Anyone born after 1937 (I think) is affected by this age increase. Also, please post any information you might get when you contact the SSA.

Hi Director,
They told me it was retirement and to forget it if I didn't plan on early retirement. So I may just go down there and ask someone again about this...
