Going to school/working on SSDI

I am going back to school this summer and it will take me about 4-5 semesters to get my post-graduate certificate I need. I would like to claim my tuition (I am shocked at how much it costs now vs. when I went to college the first time) on my taxes...but will that affect my benefits?

Also, I would like to work a little and know that you can make up to a certain amount while still getting your benefits. Do they have a tendency to try to cut off your benefits if you do this? I will be in a medical position to get off my benefits in about 2 years, but I don't want to jepordize them now.

Re: Going to school/working on SSDI

im not an expert, but from what ive read you can make up to 950.00 a month i think. thats gross(no taxes taken out)(in my state)dont know if its the same in all.

but if you have to pay for your medical , prescriptions and such i think you can subtract it from that..

1550. gross
600.in scripts
_______
950.00 gross income.

youll be fine...thats just an example of how it was explained to me.

then there is also the ticket to work thingy, where you can make any amount for up to nine months, and if you do it then they take you off...even if after the nine months if some reason you cant do it well you have i think 5 yrs to reinstate your case.(without starting all over )

i hope i explained it ok, im not an expert so dont hold me to anything.

Re: Going to school/working on SSDI

Thanks for the replies! I do have a "Ticket to Work," but my career field does not have any places that will take the ticket. Fortunately, I was recently accepted into a clinical trial that will most likely significantly increase my ability to return to work and school. I am most likely going to return to work in April and school in the fall. I am grateful that I have had the disability for the past four years, but I think it is time to go back to work!
