Question Anyone from South Carolina ?

Hello, I am in South Carolina and i have been through sooooo much as far as my health and my disability.
I have a Arachnoid Cyst on my Thoractic Spine and its been there for almost 3 years that i know of.I was on Long Term Disability from my old job through my insurance company and was getting LTD for 2 years.Well my disability check has stopped after 2 years.I got a lawyer to try to get it longer but they denied me so we sued and i got a settlement from the insurance company of 10K. I will be getting that soon.I am not able to work because i am in so much pain in my back and my legs get numb after i am on my feet for very long, and i cannot sit due to the pain .
I appied for SSDI AND SSI once and was denied, so i gave up and thought i would be able to go back to work, well that was year and a half ago, well i applied again and was denied again for SSDI and SSI.So i gave up again.Well i have another appointment to apply again March 12th. I will go again and apply and i will stick with it this time.I just soooo frustrated about all this..
Right now i am living with my father and have been here for a while now, i really need to get back on my feet somehow. When i get my settlement, i am gonna tryo to buy me a travel trailer and have ot pulled behind my fathers place because i cannot move in a apartment because i cannot pay my rent and expences.Plus i need to have some new dentures and thats gonna cost around 2K.
What do you guys think i should do ? I am a female 45 years old and i feel like i am 80.
Just need some friendly advise from people on here that maybe has been through some of the things i have been through.

Karen in South Carolina

Re: Anyone from South Carolina ?

Hi Karen,

I will be moving to SC in June.

I would suggest getting an attorney this time around when you apply.
Also make sure you have copies of all of your medical records before you apply so SS does not have to wait to get them from your Dr's.

Cindy

Re: Anyone from South Carolina ?

Are you re-applying new each time, or are you appealing the denial? Your comments make it appear that you have applied several times, but doesn't mention any appeal. Always appeal any denial, and eventually you will get to an administrative law judge, which is where most approvals are made. If you continue to apply, you start over each time, and you'll never make it to the ALJ hearing.

I agree with getting an attorney, especially if this stuff gets you down. They will get a cut of the money, but they'll make sure all the forms get filed appropriately, and you will end the cycle of starting all over each time.

Re: Anyone from South Carolina ?

Hi,Good to hear from a state neighbor,It's a long process!! The total wait time in our state from reconsideration to the ALJ level is a avg. of 480 days.I applied back in mid 06 and denied on the first attempt as well as reconsideration but had no choice but to continue.I got Allsup to support me and they have been super helpful in keeping me informed and aquiring medical records ect...The system is crazy, seems to me the people that need it either die waiting or loose everything they have in the wait process but what more can we do

Wink Re: Anyone from South Carolina ?

Hello fellow South Carolinians! I live about 45 minutes from Florence headed down hwy 378. I was supposed to finally get a hearing in March, but they neglected to tell me that a BUNCH of appeals are backed up in Columbia and it might be early summer. AAAARGGGH. I have been waiting since June 2006 which actually is not long from what I have heard. Nice to meet you all, and I wish we had a state by state disability board we could post on so we could help each other out with the knowledge we gain as we go through this tedious and stressful process!!
Hang in there and feel free to post and add a /SC to your post title so those of us here know where you are posting from and will definitely read! I am 38 soon to be 39, but I hope with the evidence I have and the docs that agree I am not work material will prevail! I hate those form letters that say we are young enough to do something. Ha!
