Local Lawyers too swamped to take my case...... - Disabilities Message Board

I called 2 lawyers that are in phonebook, one of them said he already had 2 cases pending in another county, same day as my court date, so no he couldn't take mine. Second attny's sectrary asked how old I was and what level I'm in, tols had court hearing sched. for Sept, she then said he can take your case but you would have to reschedule your hearing date, I said no thanks, I don't want to wait another 2yrs or so...I do have an appt next on 7/10, to see if another atty can take my case, The # I called was frm a commercial that states if you Lupus, fibromyalgia,joint pain,etc. (these are most of the issues that I have). If this attny can't take take my case and go w/me to court, I'm going at it on my own and still taking Hubby as a witness. Maybe I should have tried to get an attny soon after my 2nd denial, I know I messed up...Has anyone here went to court w/out an atty?

My sis went to the hearing and won without an attorney. She filed for fibro and depression. No attorney would take her case as she didn't have much money due her as she worked mostly under PRS and not SS.

I would keep searching for an atty. Find one that only gets paid if you win. You don't want to pay an atty first. That is the way most of them work. I personally would not go to Court without an atty. I don't know what the odds are but I would guess they are better with an atty. My atty. said that when I go he will have me prepared so there are no surprises. The atty. gets a percentage or $5300.00. I think that is the correct number. I feel like I have done most of the work as far as obtaining medical records etc. But I think you have a better chance with an atty.

Keep looking for a lawyer, I would not take the risk of sitting in front of that judge with out a lawyer. Also, When I got my lawyer he had a court date the same as mines was. So we resch. my date, and I was back on the docket in 2 weeks.

Hi everyone,
I have a Lawyer that will represent me on 9/3/08. I thought I was going to to have go at it alone...the reprsentative asked me some questions like a judge would and I almost started to cry, she asked me to describe a good and worse day, I had a hard time concentrating and letting it out, I asked her if when I go to court can I bring a paper w/me to help me,(cause I'm having trouble remembering), she said it would be ok. Did anyone have the same problem, used a paper to help you remember? I know it sounds dumb, but I feel like I will just breakdown and I don't want to.
