Approved medically

Yesterday we got a letter from SS saying that my husband is medically approved as of 2/1/07 and we should be receiving another letter shortly for the non-medical. I already spoke to our local office last month and they said my husbands case is "ready to go" pending the medical decision. They also said that once they got that decision they will call or send us a letter to apply for our kids. I was told that his file was electronically sent to the local office on 7/3 and it could take a day or so for them to scan it in. So we are gonna just show up at our local office tomorrow with our childrens and my info rather than wait another month for them to contact us ( even though the letter we got said wait for the 2nd one) Does anyone know if this is a good or bad idea? Tomorrow is my only day off of work and won't be able to go any other time b/c I took the past few day off b/c of all the stress.

I will be making sure they know that the 800# lies!!! When we called last week they basically said he was denied even though I told them I know he was medically approved, the guy said I was given the wrong info and would receive a denial letter. How could they be so cruel to tell someone they are not approved and then I get a letter that he was approved? They shouldn't even have this call center. In one day they told us 3 different things!

Anyway how long before we see any $? It is stritcly SSD and not SSI, we gave our bank info already, I 've learned from everyone else that direct deposit is much faster. Will the local office have an idea b/c we are broke! We use oil for heat and hot water and I owe my oil company $1000 before they will deliver to us and I am almost out not to mention behind on everything else. As much as we need the money I am just glad he is approved.

Hi Glasson,

While you're there at the SSA office taking care of your kids info, I would mention the fact that you're BACKED up with debts, and if possible if they can 'FRONT" YOU any of the monies due to the fact you're in "DIRE NEED." If this is t happen I believe you need to show them proof of something like cut off notices, and or like your bill you mentioned, NO delivery unless debt is caught up. I heard of a similar situation like yours, ad SSA did give a portion of the funds on the spot. Worth while trying, but make sure you bring proof!! God Bless,

Verge

Re: Approved medically

We went to local office but it was very crowded, we had at least 40 people ahead of us. I called them from my cell phone and my husband told them he got a "medical approval" in the mail, the lady said she doesn't see anything yet but it could take a few days for them to scan his file if it was electronically sent to them. She said that we can do the application for the kids over the phone ( they will contact us or we can call and check if received rather than wait) what I don't understand is don't they need birth certificates for the kids? or do they just go by our word?

Yes, you can do the application over the phone...There aren't many questions. However, you do have to send them copies of the birth certificates. No, they do not take one's word for it....Too much money @ stake.

Good luck.
