sitting on judges desk? - Disabilities Message Board

What does this mean if after alj. When asked for an update they say its sitting on the judges desk this was 1 month ago?

It might mean that the judge is still looking it over getting ready to sign off on it and then send it to the decision writers.
Then they will write up the decision and send it back to the judge to sign off again.
Atleast that is how mine was done and it took about six months from the time it went to the judge and to the decision writer's and back.
I am still waiting on my award letter.

I went to a hearing in front of a alj and it has been 3months and theysaid it was at the decision underwriter what that means i dont know all i know is the judge made a decision and it is at the decision underwriter and i have been trying to find out what a decision underwriter is i am about to pull my hair out wondering and waiting i have lost everything home and car and just praying for an answer soon. goog luck:

My claim sat on the judge's desk for 6 months before I heard anything. I never received a letter before the money showed up at the bank. Also Friday was the day they sent out the backpay. Don't know if that is the norm or not. I later received a letter that stated when monthly benefits would begin and all the other info regarding the amount of backpay, etc. Once the backpay showed up, the rest was pretty swift, such as Medicare info and I actually had to get a copy of the judge's decision from my attorney as the SSA failed to change my address as I had reported. Hang in there, it just takes time.
