Yes, the child will get back pay - maybe. Your son's age will have an effect on the situation. My son will get it, but he drew SSI before getting approved for DAC, so they will recalculate. I think this is the calculation, but don't hold me to it: Total SSDI back pay due minus actual SSI paid out equals how much he will get. His SSDI monthly benefit started in January, but he still doesn't have his back pay.
This case has confused social security, and they kept halting and/or reducing his monthly payments, said they had overpaid him. Then they tried to calculate it on his dad's record (much less money). Then the clerk tried to say he wasn't due any back pay, then the supervisor said he was, based on how I filed my claim. The lawyer's office talked to them (over and over and over), and I think it's all worked out now. He received his fully favorable letter in November, 2007. He's still waiting on back pay, though.
