| Re: After you are approved...
Hi Karen. Medicare and Medicaid are two different things. You may be eligible to receive Medicaid even before you get approved for Medicare, due to financial need. I was approved first time around without an IME, or hearing for SSD. It was based on my medical records. I waited only 3 months for approval. I'm pretty sure you have to be on SSD about 14 or 15 months, because I just received my Medicare Part A & B card a week ago, informing me that I was automatically enlisted because I get Disability. The card goes into effect Oct. 1. Yesterday, I received a book from Medicare explaining the benefits, and options. I haven't read through the whole book yet, but it seems to be pretty confusing. You can also check online about Medicare, Medicaid and SSI, and also food stamps to see if you are eligible. I hope I have been of some help, as I am still trying to understand all of this myself. Good luck. Kathy. P.S. I took my accident attorneys advise, and got a Disability attorney to handle the processing of my application. It took alot of the stress off of me, and they know what they are doing. Also, if you do have IME's to attend, or a hearing, your attorney will be able to attend these with you, and will have all the answers, cause he'll know your case.
