Well i got my letter the other day in the mail stating that i was denied SSDI and SSI. I found a good lawyer that has been doing DDSI for 25 years. They sent me ALOT of paper work to fill out and i mailed it back to them this morning.
So what happenes now ? I need Mediciad or something so i can have my surgery. I am in so much pain it is unbearable. My meds do not work at all.
I am so sorry you were denied. From reading boards, and what everyone has told me, getting denied twice, then going before the ALJ seems to happen pretty often.
Getting a lawyer is probably a good idea. You can turn it all over to him / her and let them deal with the Social Security employees. If your lawyer has been doing SSDI for 25 years, they may have some ideas about getting you some help until your are approved. Ask! It won't hurt a thing to ask.
Karen, I am so sorry about the news. I can tell you that I applied in July 05, was turned down twice and I got a lawyer to go see the ALJ. It took me from July 05 to Sept 07 to get in to see ALJ. It was a farce and I got turned down in Dec 07 from the judge. So of course you appeal. The appeal was in dec 07 and I'm told it could be years. So in the mean time I filed a new appl in Feb 08. I just recieved my first payment for July in Aug.
I am on Medicaid and I work well under SGA . If I can be of any help please let me know.
Daph, What is SGA ? I really don't know much about all this except for what i read on here.
This gets me so depressed because i live with my dad and i have no income coming in and its just hard on him and me.
I am 45 and have worked since i was 15, raised 2 boys that are 25 and 26. They are doing very well for thierselves, one is in the army in Texas and the other has a great paying job. Now i am stuck in this situation and its not good.
I hope this does not take so long.
SGA is substantial gainful employment. In 2008 you can not make 940.00 a month.
After I retired from my airline job as a gate agent in may 2005 I did not work for 2 yrs. My legs wobble and shake all the time, I have RA in legs and hands. And am blind in right eye. I went to work part time in 2007 , I was lucky I work no more than 3.5 hrs a day and only 15-20 days a month. I got Medicaid because I could not work full time but I at least tried to work part time, and had no other income. Dr.'s tell me I need 2 knee replacements, and I am scared but no I will be getting them when I can. If u need any info let me know. I will be praying for you. Diane
I was denied on my first try. I then went to a (good) lawyer and appealed the denial. I filed June 2004, I won on my appeal and recieved my first check May 2006. It takes a while, which is tough when unable to work and in pain.
Be persistant. If it was easy to get, then everyone would have it. I keep on top of the lawyer, they only get paid if they win the case for you. Keep good records of your medications, procedures etc.
I know, I really feel for you. I was destitute when I filed, but I don't have children. Instead I was homeless in Seattle and begging my parents (who live in NYC) to let their 30 year old daughter come home to live. I hope it is quick for you.
I live with my father for now but when i do get my disability i want to get my own place. Do you still live with your parents ? I know all this gets on my fathers nerves and he complains alot because i have no income coming in. But i am trying with every bone in my body to do what i can around here for him.
When all this first happened i had a great job, my own apartment, the kids are grown, one in the army and the other one is married and has a wife i cannot stand.lol
I am 45 and living my with my father but its better than being on the streets which i almost was.
