SSI back payments? - Disabilities Message Board

Does anyone know the average dollar amount one would get for SSI back payments in NJ? I was just approved this summer (after applying three years ago) and was told to expect a lump sum of about $2,000. Is this right? Do they pay you from the time you were actually approved or from the time you initially applied and how long you had to wait?

They will pay you from your time you applied to the date of the decision was made. If you applied in Jan 07 and were approved Jan 08 you would get that backpay.
Hope this helps, they like to make it confusing.
