Re: OTR or dire need letter - has anyone has success?
I'm sorry that I cannot help you. As a matter of fact I don't know what a OTR or dire need letter is. Could you explain a little bit more about them?
And where you found the information concerning them? I am just very curious to know what they are.
They will not need to help me as I was just recently approved for SSDI, but they might help someone else.
Thanks,
Chris

I have heard of using a dire need letter. They are used in the hope that an ALJ hearing can be expedited. You must also send shut off notices from utility providers, and a foreclosure notice from your mortgage company or eviction notice from your landlord, etc.
If it can get your ALJ hearing scheduled sooner, then I would go for it! What can it hurt?

Re: OTR or dire need letter - has anyone has success?
My lawyer handled this for me. She didn't exactly do a dire need letter but she did request an on the record decision for my case without going to a hearing. My LTD through my employer had run out which in turn caused my insurance to be terminated for several months. I had no means to go to the doctor and no meds. Because I needed the meds, they did review my case and provide a favorable decision without setting a date for a hearing.

Wow, thanks for the replies (&hope). I never knew this could take SO long. I expected to be denied the first time, but geez this is awful.
It's a never ending circle: can't work b/c of the pain & can't work (& suffer from the consequences of pain) plus if you work at all SSD assumes you are able to do it on a reg. basis. I just lost my health ins and unless I cough up $800 it will not be re-instated, I need med's too
