Piece of advice:
Get the names of whoever you talk to,for one.
Second, keep bugging them every few days or
at least once a week. They are busy and they
don't know you, therefor more likely not to
care about you.
Third, get a caseworker or advocate to help you.
I know how it can be.I was on SSI near 20yrs
and suddenly got call from SS saying that I'd
probably lose my SSI and medicaid because
my dad started his application for SS.The law is that if
a person has disabled child that became disabled by
age 19,when the parent starts drawing SS the child(
evin if is an adult) the child must start drawing off the
parents SS.I lost my SsI because the amount I'm entitled
to by SS was over SSI's eligibility limit. And because I lost
SSI it messed up my eligibility for Medicaid.Loss of Medicaid
with my multiple illnesses isn't good.No way can i afford
all my medical machines, etc. It ended up that Medicaid
saidI can stay on BUT I am oly allowed to keep $867 of
the 1,067 from SS a month.Anything over that is put
towards my medical. In fact,I got a SS raise of 61 and they took it
and put it towards my care. Now I pay $261 a month for my healthcare.
AS for caseworker,I called my nurse casework manager after
I tried handling the SS,etc people myself a few days.It was
crazy.I'm not elderly but I can see how elderly and others
"slip thru the cracks" or don't get their needs met.I'd ask
a question and get a"oh ask so and so.I dont know."So
I'd ask so and so."Oh I dont know ask such person." It was like
goin in circles.Or I'd be told wrong info.I was so glad to have
my nursecase manager to cut thru hoops and get answers.
So anyway,be bold and keep at them.Don't just sit back
and dont let them be incharge.
