information for those receiving SSDI

i get SS disability. I received the statement from SS that there is no COLA (cost of living) for 2010. On it, it also, gave an amount for my Medicare part D, and it had increased. I never received anything from my Drug Coverage people telling me there would be a 15 dollar a month increase. So i called Medicare, and have changed my Part D coverage to something that is more to my financial liking.

my message is, if you are getting SSDI and have money taken out for Part D Drug Coverage, double check and make sure there everything is the way you want it

Re: information for those receiving SSDI

May i add not only 2010 no COLA increase but also 2011 no cost of living increase. Also medicare.gov or mymedicare.gov are good places to check into now and then for changes that are made to medicare plans.

Re: information for those receiving SSDI

I did a search and saw that it is supposed to be before the end of the first quarter of 2010. That would be by the end of March.

Re: information for those receiving SSDI

I was wondering if anyone was going to began a thread about the COLA for the next 2 yrs .
It makes it extra difficult for those on a fixed income to manage the tight budgets we already are on , However , CA is in such a budget mess . That I personally was not surprised about the COLA freeze . 2 yrs seems like such a long wait while food prices and gas continue to rise. That is the scary part .

Re: information for those receiving SSDI

I found the letter. There is no date on it but I know I got it a week or two ago. It says Good News! The economic recovery bill that President Obama signed into law in February 2009 provides for a one-time payment of $250 to Social Security and Supplemental Security Income Beneficiaires. You should receive your one-time payment within the next 30 days. You do not need to take any action to get this payment (underlined) Then it goes on with helpful hints.

Each person gets a one time payment of $250.

It will not be included in your monthly benefit payment.

If you and your spouse both receive SSI or SSD you both get it. But child under 18 does not get it.

Visit www.socialsecurity.gov for more info.

Could it be that some of you already got this payment last year and I only got the letter because I just got awarded SSD in October? I have no clue. Not sure if this was new or not. Just seems strange that no one else got the letter. Strange there is no date on the letter too. It looks like the other letters from SSA.

Hope this helps.

Yes, that's what it is. Since you are new to the system, you get the back pay and the back Gov't stimulus check. Same goes for anyone who is approved (at any point) retroactive to when that Gov't payment was made. The whole purpose of the retroactive payments is to catch the applicant up, as if they had been approved on their initial date to start with. So, if some type of broad based Gov't check is issued after their disability date, it stands to reason that they would be awarded that money as well.

You are also correct in that there has not been a second payment (to those on disability).
