My husband received his fully favorable letter dated 1/11/11. Yesterday our oldest daughter received a check for what I assume is backpay. The check was mailed to her. She turned 18 in August. He has not received the backpay for our 3 other children. We did notice when we checked online that there was a prenotification from the US Treasury in our bank account. Does anyone know how soon after the prenotification that the direct deposit is made?

If you have enough earnings then you also get pay for dependents. If your award amount does not exceed your family max then your children are also eligible for payment. I believe that is how it works. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Clem: In most cases dependent children under 18 or older but not yet HS grad are eligible for up to 50% of your award. So if you are to get $1000/mo the total dependent child award is $500. If you have 2 kids under 18 then that's $250/child. When the eldest turns 18/graduates HS then the remaining child gets $500.
I believe when our bank received the pre notification we had the funds the next day or the day after at the furthest. When I was approved I had to go open a claim for my son at our local office. I did this on a Thursday and he had the money in our account the next day. Congrats.
Congrats! My son was found Fully Favorable the day of our video court. Received notice on January 20, 2011. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take for backpay and first check. We live in Colorado I have heard it can take awhile here. Any ideas? Anyone?
Unfortunately it varies. Some people apply for kids and get funds innediately. Others seem to have to fight to get the money due to them. And it often can differ in the same office. There's some potential for the payment claim to fall through the cracks. Cakk local SS office and see what they say about potential wait time. Once you've waited that long keep calling SS until you get everything due to you and your kids.
Thanks for all the replys. We received the award letter yesterday and I listed a date to expect the deposit of the back pay. The reason I was confused about the childrens' back pay is because our oldest daughter received hers already but we haven't seen or heard anything about the other 3 kids. When my husband called they told him there was no way she got a check. Well not sure how she has one already. He is going to call today and ask about the other children since he now has the award letter.
Since the eldest has now "aged out" of eligibility it makes sense she'd be paid separately she's a "once and done" payment. The other kids are ongoing payments story may be handled differently. As long as SS knows of the younger ones just keep contacting SS for an update and to be sure SS has all their info (ages, SS# etc)
Thanks for letting people know. And hope everything turns out like you need it to. It helps others for you to let them know about your process in case someone is going thru the same thing. Thanks again
Hi I'm hoping you all can help me. My husband was approved at the hearing but we thought that our children would automatically get their part of the money. Is this not correct? Do we need to do anything to make sure they get their part? We have an attorney but he has never said anything about what we need to do to get our children their money. The Judge did ask who all lived in our home, but that was it. Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, but I haven't recieved a reply to my post and need to know what I need to do to get this started if I need to do anything at all. Thanks for listening.
