Smile Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

I was wondering if anyone has ever know of ssdi NOT sending a person to one of there doctors? I do have alot of recent medical files in the last two years so maybe that is why. I also wonder is that a bad thing? My crazy doctor who has me on 8 pain and muscle relaxers a day refuses to sign my FRC from. He said they would think he was being prejudice towards me...that is so silly ! He is the one who said I should file. Any help on this matter would be great. Thanks all.

Re: Is it a good or bad thing that SSDI is not wanting me to see there doctor?

I wasn't sent to one of their doctors either, probably because I have a lot of recent medical records. My doctor refused to fill out the RFC form also, I posted about this just a few days ago. Frustrating isn't it? I guess it takes too much of their precious time or they don't want to get involved. Anyway, good luck with things. I just had my hearing and am waiting on a decision.

Re: Is it a good or bad thing that SSDI is not wanting me to see there doctor?

My guess is that it is a good sign. IIRC you usually get a CE if there is inconsistency in the records or there is not enough information to make a determination. It might not be the end of the world if your doctor didn't sign an RFC form, because SS checks to see if the RFC input is consistent with the medical records as a whole (this is after googling the subject like crazy). There are some cases online, for example - the RFC shows severe impairment, but the ALJ put low credence on it because it was inconsistent with the rest of the record. So while an RFC can help, if it does not match the rest of the data, the doctor's opinion carries less weight. So your doctor's concern about prejudice is only well-founded if he put stuff on your RFC that doesn't match his notes or is starkly in contrast to what other doctors say. It is not at all uncommon for doctors to refuse to fill out an RFC form, even though they know spending an extra few minutes can make or break a case.

I agree the RFC has to match whats in the file. My brother in law just won without that rfc form filled out so it is possible. Good Luck to you. please keep us posted.

Re: Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

Thanks so so much for your quick responces. I was telling my husband, even if he did not fill out the form for me, my therapist did.I just mailed it off. Besides, the judge or whoever is looking at my records would have to know how he feels. How else would he explain the pain pills and muscle pills. Not to mention the physical therapy he sent me too last year. I also gave one to my endocrinologist and my cardiologist, ( have not heard back from them yet). I filed on several things. The main thing I guess was my back, neck and spine. Both my legs are numb due to some nerve damage. I had a car accident just over 2 years ago. I filed 2 months ago. I have not worked except 3 days in two years. Finally my doc ( yes, the one that didnt fill out paperwork) said I was not going to get better and to file for disability. I also have an uncontrolled thyroid disease, high blood pressure, heart disease ( now, I think...it is called a disease) I have A -fib and constant pvc's documented for over 13 years, diverticulitis ( when inflamed), a long history of ovarian cysts and I have seen a therapist off and on for 3 years due to depression and anxiety. Oh ...and Im a bit of a fatty too.Wonder do they take into consideration weight?? Humm. I take 14 pills a day ( on a bad day)from all the docs. BUT.. I am only 43. Hopeing to get it but I know alot of folks dont. So,I will not get my hopes up for sure !

Re: Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

the dr who is backing your disibility;in other words in his professional opinion has deduced that you are totally disabled must be the one who completes your RFC-if he refuses he is basically saying your not totally disabled and will surely hurt your claim-this is the whole thing;having your treating dr's complete backing and if you dont this is a huge problem i am sorry to say, my treating dr is the one who unequivically said i was totally disabled; along with other specialists i was seeing, but his opinion carried the most weight(his completion of my RFC form-my ALJ at my hearing evan said as much; i truly believe without the support an the completion of my RFC
by my main treating physician i may not have won my ssdi claim

Re: Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

During my second case, I was sent to one of their doctors, and won shortly after.

Here is the strange part: My disability is 100% in my back, and they sent me to a psychiatrist. But since I won, I think I won't complain.

Re: Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

I guess there is not much I can do about it. He said he would help in any other way..?? LOL. He gave me a number of another doctor that does the paperwork of the patients from his office, oddly enough. But, Im not going to use him. Oh and my doctor said he was not qualified to do them ! Surely the 3 rfc forms that I did get filled out will help. Plus, I see a back surgen soon. Who knows, maybe he would fill one out for me.

Re: Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

I did not ever have to go to one of Social Security Dr's . What I guess happens is when social security needs more docuementation on a claim they are sent to one of their Dr's. Or if they need more information regarding the claim, they send people.
I won my SSDI at the reconsideration level, no attorney or anything . However, I really was a mess .

Mscat,
I was hoping it was a good thing that they didnt need or want me to see one of there docs. But, if you didnt get it on the first try...I must be wrong. It has been 2 months today that I filed. I am in Arkansas and not sure if they are slow or fast. I had 19 different doctors and hospitals for them to collect info from, so it may take a long while. Do, most people have to see one of there docs? Every person I have talked to that didnt have to won there case. Just looking for some hope I guess.LOL.

Re: Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

I did not get it on the first try because I did not say all the medical/mental conditions that were going on. I only listed one condition.. and that was depression. So between the time I recieved my first deniel letter to the time i filled the rest of the paperwork for reconsideration I had plenty of new evidence supporting my claim. Including hospital stays, surgries, and coming clean of the rest of the mental health problems. Their were new DR's to add on the reconsideration papers that further supported my claim.
What really tipped DDS off was that I also incuded pictures of injuries that were in different stages of healing. Those pictures spoke a thousand words> It was like Disability Determination Services had no other reasons to deny my claim. Since I had multiple mental health issues , plus medical problems , I believe that is what tipped it towards a favorable approval.

Re: Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

It is so interesting to hear about other peoples claims. I too took pictures of all my injuries after my car accident. I was awared 50,000. a few years ago from my insurance. We took pics of the car too. Funny thing is, I took pics never ever thinking of disability but more along the lines of wanting them as a reminder of what I have been thru and how far I have come. I am filing on several things. 8 totally different things in fact. It would be awesome to get it on my first try but not getting hopes up. My broken body keeps my mind off the wait most times. I waited two years to file. Not working, just waiting...to get better. Finally my doctor said " I hate to be a downer, but your not going to get better, and you need to file for disability". God is good and there is a reason for everything. I am now 43 and I know the age factor will not help me any. You guys are wonderful. So happy I found this site.

Re: Is it good or bad that SSDI is not wanting me to see their doctor?

Chrissy,

You seem to have a wonderful attitude despite your medical problems.

I was never asked to see SSA's doctor and I ended up winning my SSDI claim for back problems at the hearing level.

Just be prepared for a rollercoaster ride as you go through the process of applying for SSDI.

Best wishes!
