But I am from New York, and had my ALJ hearing(with council)on May 1st on Long Island New York.Although my attorney said it went "well" and would not commit to an answer, how long of a wait will it be to recieve a hopefully favorable decision? Is it a longer the better scenerio?
We started the process in early 2009,and along with various ailments,at the age of 52 it is a very stressfull, time -consuming process.
Thanks everyone and hope I can contribute to the forum
ferd144, I don't know but if you googled the state and alj it might help also the name of the judge and approval rates. It might help, but each case is different Hang in there your process is almost over I hope you get an approval your age I think will play in your favor others will most more helpful things keep checking in on this board there are very knowledgeable people that will probly be able to help you more Good Luck. Have a Good Day
* I hope you receive a favorable decision soon. How long did it take before you received your hearing? Did you have to appeal the initial denial or do you go straight to the ALJ level in NY if your initial application is denied?

WOW, Blueskies your great you learned from the best (SpineAZ) I saw that but didn't know how to transfer that over. And is that the time that they will hear back from the ALJ are the time to get the hearing. To me it look like NY approves a lot of people? did you get that from the things you were looking at? I know its a algerbra thing LOL. My youngest daughter is an algerbra calucus, geomery, teacher in NC. and going for her Bac. She said everyone could learn algerbra but then later changed her mind when she tried to teach me LOL.
Hi Ferd, welcome to the board! For me, it was three months before I got a letter from the judge after my hearing. Others hear from the judge in as little as two weeks - I think it depends on the judge.
Good luck, and I hope you get good news!

I applied in April 2010(disability start date was Fall 08) and was denied immediately as is standard from what I understand
In May 2010 I retained a lawyer specializing in this field and it took literally one year exactly to see the ALJ hearing on May 1st,2011.It was ~375 days or so.
Its only been two weeks since the hearing ,but was wondering how long from the actual hearing date when I will receive a decision. It is an extremely tedious process and am exhausted beyond belief.I hope and pray others have an easier time
IMO the masses have no clue what its like to be disabled

I know they don't. Ok what you would like to know is after your hearing how many days is it till you hear something. Well I have heard people say 2 weeks and other waiting 3 months I don't know what the timeline is if they ae held by anytime line other I know will tell you how long they had to wait maybe that will help. But in the mean time can you try to pass the time away somehow like reading watching funny movies are anything that would make the time seem to go faster I know it is an exhusting process Hang in there.
I think we all agree ... waiting is the hardest part. When I was waiting for the letter from the judge, I remember that every day, as soon as I could hear the mail truck coming down the road, I would start getting ready, get my cane or walker, and psyche myself up. When you are disabled, the short trip to the mailbox can be quite a wearisome journey.
Hang in there. I would say 'try not to think about it', but I know that would do no good. While waiting and waiting, that is just about all we can think about.
