Question Power wheelchair evaluation

I am going to a physical therapist Tuesday to be evaluated for a power wheelchair. I am on disability and medicare. My doctor has reservations about my using the wheelchair all the time and letting my muscles atrophy.

I use a hospital bed and power lift recliner. On good days I walk around my apartment with 2 canes. Otherwise, I use a four wheel rollator. I seldom leave my apartment except for doctor's appointments.

Has anyone had one of these evaluations? How did you handle it? What would you recommend?

Re: Power wheelchair evaluation

If you can, tell the therapist/evaluator what you would use the chair for, if you'd still like to ambulate at home with canes, etc. What is the cause of your disability?

Re: Power wheelchair evaluation

If the osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia primarily affecting your ability to ambulate let the therapist know. In order to evaluate they neec to uncerstand exactly what impairs you from walking.
