I had my disability appeal last week, after a year of waiting, they had a vocational expert there, who determined that I am unable to perform past work, when asked if I could perform any other jobs he was only able to come up with two jobs an escort car driver and a video surveilance watcher, I am diagnoised with Severe Anxiety ( cant be around lots of people, or I freak out) Bi Polar, Severe Depression, (so this eliminated any jobs where I had to be around people) Carpel tunnel and tendenitis, the judge said I could not lift more than 5lbs, so this eliminated anything that was repeative, or touch, or grasp. I am not sure what to think now, do you think it went well??
Welcome to the Healthboards.
If you thought the appeal went well then that is great. Hopefully you will get a fully favorable decision. Did you apply for SSDI or SSI? Do your Dr's support your claim of disability? How long has it been since you were diagnosed with these conditions? Are you om medications? Sometimes with mental health issues a lot of them can be controlled with medicine and therapy. however, a person can still have significant problems in everyday, overall functioning. Despite medication and treatment.
I won my disability claim for mental health reasons at the reconsideration stage. So I know it is possible to be approved. I hope you are too.

when my claim was intially denied, it was because they said that the meds were helping, since then I was hospitilized, and had records to show that for the last year and a half, they keep switching meds, and symptoms are not improving, I have been seeing a therapist consistantly, and he was the one who suggested that I apply for disability, as for my hand, the judge and the vocational expert both agreed that I could not use it, and i was limited to lifting 5lbs and no more, I sure hope I get a full award, all I really want is the insurance so I can get my hand fixed, as for the anxiety I doubt that will ever go away fully, but it definatly makes it hard to work with people, around people or in stressful situations.

From what you said, it sounds as tho things went pretty well in IMO. I also have a severe panic, anxiety disorder with mild to moderate depression sometimes so I can relate to you very well. I applied for SSDI for the same reasons that you did. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Please come back and update on the outcome. Welcome to healthboards btw.
I was doing some research today, and found that the ALJ that did my hearing has a 69% approval rating, with only 10% being partially favorable, I hope this is good news, could really use some good news right about now!
I'm curious; what the heck is an escort car driver? I would think that's working with the public also? some things just don't make sense to me so maybe I'm misunderstanding what it means.
sounds like it went well; good luck and hopefully you get a favorable decision soon.
When you see a wide load on the highway they commonly have Escort drivers with them. One person in a car or truck with a banner or lights saying "caution-wide load"
Seriously??? LOL I thought it was a Limo driver no wonder he looked at me funny when I said I couldn't lift peoples luggage into the back of the vehicle!
Also something that just came to my mind, the judge said my last insured date is September 13, and she had to have a decision by then, is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Since you applied before your last insured date (9/13/11) for a date of disability prior to 9/13/11 the decision can be at any time. If he feels he has to be done by that date you may have more luck getting a quick decision.
