As you may have read from my other post today, I had my ALJ hearing today (disaster) but I was thinking....on the off chance that I do get approved, when I first applied for SS 2 years ago I had a different bank account than I do now. Should I call them now and have them change this? I've heard others say that SS called them to confirm bank account information, but I'm not sure if I should wait for that or be proactive and call them now. If so, who should I call about this?
Call your local SS office OR any service number on correspondence from SS regarding your SSDI/SSI claim. You should inform them, most likely in writing, as they will make an attempt to deposit to the "known" account you provided when applying. The deposit would of course be denied by the bank, but in order to make sure they have all that they need it's best you update SS.
Yes, please do call and give them your new bank account number. Better to be safe than sorry.
When I applied, they took my bank account info. When I was approved, they called me to confirm the numbers (and that is how I found out I had been approved).
It is best to update your bank account information because will deposit your money right in , sometimes before you even know that your approved. It will slow down the process of getting paid if social security does not have the right information.
