Question?

As most of you all know my son was approved for disability recently. I am trying to figure out something though. I think he is eligble for what is called "adult child's benefits" which social security would pay out of my record since I have SSDI. What if the amount he would recieve off my record is lower then what he would recieve on regular SSI? Would he be placed on SSI and then get benefits on me at the same time? Or would social security just give him SSI? I don't think it would be right if they just gave him the adult child's benefits only ? He would be getting the same amount that he had before when he was under 18 .

Re: Question?

OK, I *think* it is either/or. He should get the largest of the amounts, I can't see anywhere online where he would get a combination.

So if a disabled adult child is accessing benefits from his father who receives $2000/mo in SSID. The child would get $1000/mos- considerably higher than SSI.

If accessing from his mother who makes $1000/mo he could get $500 in which SSI is more.

Please correct if I am wrong.
