Just curious....Is there a min SSDI award amount?

I know there is a max SSDI/Retirement amount.

Quote
"The maximum benefit depends on the age a worker chooses to retire. For example, for a worker retiring at age 66 in 2011, the amount is $2,366. This figure is based on earnings at the maximum taxable amount for every year after age 21."

My question is>>>> is there a min. SSDI amount? I can not find a satisfactory answer even after doing a google search or querying the SSA website? Some sites say approx. $500.

Blue, I don't think there is a minimum payment. I haven't been able to find any solid info about it either. But, over the past few years, while I was reading everything I could, on all the SSDI boards, I did see lots of refrences about the payments people were awarded.

I often read about people who were awadred SSDI, but the payments were very low, like $200 - $300 ..... so they would get SSI on top of their SSDI. My SSDI payments are not that high, so I get food stamps to help.

Like you said, the monthly payment is based on your earnings. If someone has not worked much in their life, or had only part-time, or low paying jobs, the monthly payment could indeed be very low.

Hey, thanks Gayle. I was just curious. Now that you mention it, I have also seen these low SSDI amounts in the 200-300 dollar range but these ppl also get a supplemental SSI benefit. The combination tho is usually between 600-700 dollars per month which still isn't that much.

A lady where I go to get my medicine was telling me she gets $50 ssd and the rest in ssi to equal the 700 plus dollars. That is exactly what she said. hard to believe...

I have also heard that if SSDI amount is really low the person can get SSI too. Not all states have it where you can get food stamps too. A few states add federal income to the total disability amount making any extra help impossible .

Re: Just curious....Is there a min SSDI award amount?

well glad you asked i am at awww at my amount lets just say it a little over 200 a month ssd my statement said over 800.00 a month i have asked them and they say that's just a estimate and my lawyer says there's nothing they can do about there amounts i started in 2009 just got my approval and guess what I qualify for ssi also, so this is how i get screwed i only get back pay in increments every 6 months so every one that thinks they get alot of back pay beware if you get straight ssd that may be true but when you throw ssi into it's a whole different ball game be prepared to show you're family's whole income so if you dont paycheck stubs state disabilty print out my husbands un employment I suggest you start getting those statements you're gonna have to show them but only if ssi is involved since the time you apply than they will calculate what you get in back pay after they add all that up I get not very much and have had more stress that i don't need after being approved because they make so complicated and i get back pay from ssd but not sure if they will hold that too do to being able to get both sure they'll find some excusr to hold that too I don't even care about my back pay too sick too care and it's a bunch of b.s.
