confused: Hello All...I have worked over 20+ yrs and only 39yrs old. I have been diagnosed with Bipolar/GAD/Anxiety/Severe Depression since 1999. I last worked a full time job in 2009 and a little part time (3 months in 2010) I completed an application for disability in June 2011. I turned in ALL of my medical records for over 6-7 yrs..ALL of them. I received a phone call from my local SSA rep (10-2010) because he needed some more info. He asked me questions about income (I have none), assets, who I reside with, do I own a car, have I worked since I applied, etc. He went on to confirm my direct deposit info and address. After I answered all of his questions, he told me IF I WAS APPROVED that I would qualify for SSI until my SSDI kicked in. He said that my case was in the FINAL DETERMINATION and most cases dont make it THAT far. He said my case looks good and it could be approved or denied today or in two months...he said be patient.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP? PLEASE ANY HELP....IS THIS FAVORABLE OR IS HE HYPING ME UP FOR THE DISSAPOINTMENT:confused
Recieving a phone call after a application is filed is common. Social Security finishes up the application by asking specific questions pertaining to a claim. After that part is done the claim is sent to Disability Determination Services and someone looks over the claim with a fine tooth comb. If their is plenty of medical evidence and your found to be disabled under social security's standard your claim goes back to the field office and someone there will calculate your benefit amount, then it is sent to a payment processing center. If thier is not enough medical evidence then the DDS worker with send you to a CE , a CE is a medical professional who works for social security, it could be for a mental health exam or a physical exam. They wil ask a lot of questions then make a report , THEN it goes back to DDS for a final determination. If the claim is denied . a letter will be sent in the mail telling you why it was denied , the claim stays at the DDS until their is a appeal , a appeal needs to be done within 60 days, then anther person from DDS looks at the claim again. This is called the reconsideration stage. If the claim is denied again you can still appeal that decision and go before a judge.
The first application takes 5-6 months , their is a wait time of 5 months where no benefits are paid.

Thanks for the info, Mscat40. That helped explain a lot. I think what really had me confused was the fact te he said, in his own words, that "my case looked good and most dont make it this far. Also, it could be today or two months for an approval/denial and check my acct just in case I am approved," Guess I will get in line to hurry up and wait. Thanks!
Ok, called the 800# for further clarification. The SSA rep stated that my case was completed on 10/5/2011 and was 'randomly' selected for QA review. I never saw a SSA dr but I did submit recent med records. Hoping for the best but expecting the worse.
Are you sure it was QA and not QR? Qr stands for quality review. That is when a claim is pulled and a different represenative looks at it to make sure everything was done correctly with a claim and their wer eno mistakes. If everything is done correctly a favorable decision will be made. I have not heard of a claim get to quality review without a inital favorable decision. This is a good sign. Remember their is a five month waiting period before any benefit amount is paid. On the sixth month a claimant is entitled payment .

I hope everything works out for you sinnamonspice1. Mscat has given you some very good, accurate info. Did you apply yourself or did you use a lawyer or disability advocate?
I applied online by myself. I hope that everything goes smooth now. The local office acted as if they were upset that I called the 800#. The local office rep said that I would be hering from him from now on so I don't know what that means.

You can actually check on your application on line. See the status and everything. You need a confimation number so you can see how you go about getting one. It is ok to call the 800 number, but sometimes they don't have updated information on a claim, and you can call speak to someone, then call again get a different person and be told something totally different.
I think your very close to finding out about your claim. Hang in there ! Soon you will know.
