I understand your frustration Keli of wanting to go back to school and better your life. Living on SSDI for a lot of people means living just right on the poverty line or below it. Many people, especially if you are older, have no other options often except to live on disability income as best they can. Are you concerned that if you start college your SSDI benefits could be taken away before you have a chance to complete your college edu and find employment? This is a very legit concern and this might trigger a CDR and possible loss of benefits. What are you thinking about studying? You said you receive LTD and SSDI. How long is the LTD good for? Are you concerned about losing both or just mainly the SSDI?

im worried about losing both, ltd is good until i am deemed able to go to work,i wanted to study nursing, as i have been a med assist for 18 years the last ten at an urgen care for a major hospital, not sure even after surgery if i can do it though but wanted to give it a try, i now live in the country t where the pay is 1/2 of what i use t get, so if able to get a job it would have to be a night job to go to school, not sure if i could do that yet until after surgery, i cant live off this moniesthank you so much for yoour reply btw what is cdr?
A CDR = Continued Disability Review. Social Security does one on everybody. It could happen a year after being on disability 3years or 5-7 years if disability is not likely to improve. If you are in college it might prompt a review because college takes a lot out of people who are not even disabled so social security might think your condition has improved. If I were you I would call the 1-800 number and check on the rules about going to school. Try to find the most accurate information possible so you don't lost any benefits.
