Vann04 initially brought this to everyone's attention. Make sure after you receive your notice of award letter from SS that you go to the SSA website and request a temporary PRC (password request code) online.

They will then send you a temporary PW to login and you will then be able to create a permanent PW using the temp. one they sent you for future logins. You can't do much but it does allow you to do things like

1. Check my information and benefits
2. Change my address or telephone number
3. Start or change direct deposit
4. Change my password
5. Block electronic access to my personal information.

Also, after you become eligible for medicare and receive your medicare card, go the the medicare website and register also.

You can do things like set up emergency contacts, enter your doctor or doctors info., view claims and see what medicare has paid for and how much, view your plan and coverage, etc. There is also a great chat service available 24/7 where someone can answer any questions that you might have altho they will not / can not help you decide on a medicare part C plan or even discuss if one might be right for you. I do almost everything online if I can. I only call or meet F2F as my last options.
