Going to lose it all

Hi and hello to all. I have been reading through the forums and the different posts and I thought my life was bad.

Don't get me wrong, my life sucks, disabled and been fighting for disability for the past 5 years, on my third go round now.I am suppose to find out by September ( apparently the government only has 5 days to the week on their calendar). Was told by our local politicians office that they don't take a GP's word anymore, need specialists report. I have 4 of those and they all say the same thing, I am no good, done like an old work horse. Just finished having my 3rd heart attack, and they say it was "stress" induced. yah think?

I am fighting major depression, no money, social services has cut me down because my oldest daughter had a break down and is going to end up in a group home. So they are taking away 120.00 a month from my huge 835.00 check. Already 300.00 plus a month in the hole and have been for the past 5 years. I still have a disabled wife and 2 kids at home. Utilities are going to be shut off, and probably going to lose my home within the next 2-3 months.

My friends all have sympathy for me, but they are all going through rough times as well, and probably well aware that I am past broke. They are all tapped out, as well as my Father, and brother.

I don't know what else to do, any ideas? my life insurance premiums couldn't be paid, so they cancelled that. Any lower and I could probably walk under a snakes belly with a ten gallon hat on, and not even tickle his stomach.

I am done.....

Re: Going to lose it all

Sorry to hear about all of this. I am not familiar with Canada, but are there free counseling services available?

Re: Going to lose it all

I am so sorry that you are going through all of that. I hate to get too personal but do you have any religious beliefs? The only reason that I ask is because I was going through some similar situation. I am a single mother of 2 and I have a chronic illness. I do get disability but because I am so young I don't even get that much.(Didn't put that much in social security because of my age). People don't get it, I would give my arm to be able to work and take care of my kids. I hurts when my teenage daughter want the things that her friends have and I am not able to provide it for her. Especially because she is on the National Honors Society and she is a straight A student. I will not get anymore in dept about my situation but I will tell you that prayer works. It is something that I can honestly tell you has helped me out of my pity parties so many times.

I am not from Canada but do they have any subsidized housing? Sometimes you have to downsize. Maybe the house you could afford 10 years ago is not the house you can afford now. Have you tried any kind of community programs that can help you with utilities. Call and see if your county has a program that does that. Also see about a budget plan with your utilities. Do your neighborhood have food pantries? I had to find out the hard way that there is a few things out there (not many) that will help people that are in our situation. But they don't advertise. You have to find it. Call around. I hope this help because no matter what, there are so many people that are in worst situations. No matter how bad ours is there is someone worst. Please keep me posted, I will have you and your family in my prayers.

Re: Going to lose it all

I've done the counselling, been through the United Way programs. The waiting list for "Emergency Housing" here in this City is 5 years minimum. I have paid into our disability program for 38 years, the general consensus is that they say no, and hope you go away. I am stubborn and haven't given up yet, but it is on the end of 5 years, and I am out of all options. No answers, and nothing in sight..

I can see why you feel this way. Disability can be a pain in the rear....but you will get back pay once they grant you disability. I know this sounds very corny but please know I am only saying this because I HAVE BEEN at the point of having nothing and not knowing if I will be able to feed my family. But you have to have faith. I guess that sounds so blahblah but you don't know how powerful your mouth is. Speaking it out into existance. There was nothing but faith that got me to where I am now. I still have a lot going on with me but now I do know how to handle the madness. You said your wife is disabled. Do she get any social security? I know you said you were on the break of losing your home, I know you don't want to lose your home. Who does??? But this may be a sign that maybe you should try and get something smaller with less utilities. Like a nice size apartment or condo. Something to where you only have to pay electric. If you don't mind me asking but do you have cable? I'm guessing you have internet? Do you all have a landline phone? Any cell phones? If so maybe you have to cut out some of the Luxuries. I know they don't sound like luxuries but in a sense they are. Another idea is maybe you could do some cleaning house,(especially if you are going to downsize) and have a yard sale. You would be amazed at the things you have that are worth some big bucks. I hope I have not upset you with all the questions but I really want to help. I do have faith that you will be alright. God Bless

Re: Going to lose it all

Already sold anything worth value, wife was a stay at home mother, and no benefits until she reaches 65, or I die and she gets survivors benefits. Land line,TV, are dead, cell phone is my only communication, and internet. Though these might be gone sooner than I would like. I have a fighters spirit, but it has been beaten down so many times it is hard to get back up. I think I do, just so I can see what someone else is going to do to me.

You are a true fighter. Well I was doing some research and I am hoping this can help. I know of two different ideas right now. I have a friend that goes and give plasma for extra cash. I'm not sure how it works in Canada but in the US they will let you give plasma like once or twice a week. You get paid each time. My friend gets like 250-300 a month for doing it. She tried to get me to do it. The extra money could def help me right now. But I couldn't because of my disease. But maybe that is something you could look in your area and see if they have available. Also with your cell phone. Once again, I don't know if this is available where you live but in the U.S. we have a program that as long as you are on Social security, medicare, or receiving public assistance you can get a free cell phone with around 250 minutes a month, for free. Of course the cell phones aren't touch screens or blackberry's but it's just a plain cell phone. Ypu can do all the necessary things, make and receive calls, text, internet. And you can always get more minutes (you just have to pay for the extra). Maybe these two things are available in your area and that could help. Every little bit helps. Let me know if this help. I am thinking of anything that can help. Still in my prayers. Muah!

Hi Charles, I am glad you are feeling better! I know that you are still stressed and worried but trust me what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! I am still doing some research and seeing if I can find anything to help. Did you look into the plasma centers? I really believe that you are going to be fine. But that is exactly what the boards is for, advise, support, and just to sometimes vent. Keep me posted. I will def do the same.

Re: Going to lose it all

I've been disabled for 6 years now, my husband is 63 and gone through 3 layoffs in the past 5 years. He was able finally to get a minimum wage job (and he has an MBA). To top it off he was recently diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma. Thank God this low paying job does have health care, but of course the co pays eat that up. We moved to a studio appartment from a 3 bedroom house, cut everything, cable TV, cell phones, etc. I have to believe that eventually things will get better......

The reason I'm posting is that our/your situation reminds me of the recession of the 70's. My brother and I were in high school then and we did all we could to help our parents. I got babysitting jobs after school and weekends and my brother would cut lawns, shovel driveways, what ever he could do to raise a few bucks which we would happily turn over to our folks. More than the money, it helped build character in both of us. Sure we wanted the things other kids had but my dad was out of work and we wanted to do anything we could to help (besides we liked eating!!).

You don't say how how old your kids are but I'd be willing to bet they'd be happy to help out. These times are when family needs to stick together, and think of the lessons your kids would learn. I realize this is only a very small part of the help you need. My parents never forgot how we pitched in and the pride they felt lasted until the day they passed.

God bless,
KG

Re: Going to lose it all

Thanks Konagirl222, not sure where this ride is going to take me, but until I can't draw a breath of air I am seeing it out. Too many years and too many recessions i have suffered through, when you aren't constantly in pain and can hardly walk, the mind can't deal with only one thing. Too much hard wiring going on, but I keep on keepin on.
