Unhappy Dizzy/Vertigo - reassure me!

First of all, I'm new here. I'm glad to find all of you!

I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct forum. Please forgive me if there's somewhere else that would be better suited for this.

This morning, I woke up and immediately had the room spin around me. It terrified me. I grabbed hold of the edge of the bed to keep from "falling" and the room just spun around for about 3 or 4 seconds. I hadn't sat up or anything. All I did was open my eyes.

Then, when I'd close my eyes, I'd kind of feel dizzy. I'd open them again, and it would be ok.

A little while later, I was still lying there, and the room spun again. Not quite as badly as the first time, but enough that I was scared again.

Even right now, I kind of feel a little dizzy.

This doesn't have to be something really bad, does it? It's not a tumor or a stroke or something, is it? I'm scared. It was so sudden and so scary.

Occasionally, I might have a little dizziness before my period, but it's not that time. So, I don't think it's hormonal (could be wrong, but....) I'm not on any kind of medication. I haven't had an upper respiratory infection. My ears don't hurt.

I did something bad. I looked on the internet for info on what it could be. Along with all the "normal" things that it could be, I also saw references to vertigo's being linked to MS, brain tumors and all kinds of other things. Tell me it's not those things.

I don't know what it is. But, I do know that I'm scared.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Or, make me feel like it's ok?

I'm still a little bit woozy right now. The room isn't spinning (thank goodness), but I do kind of feel weird. I went ahead and ate some cereal and had some coffee to see if it was hunger.

What is this? Should I worry?

Hi Dotty, Do you get dizzy with movement of your head? Does anything make it better or worse? If it keeps up and not just a fluke, I would strongly suggest getting into see your doc or/and an ENT. A simple ear infection can cause vertigo as well as all the things you have read. Going to the doc is the first thing to do..Good Luck Belle

Dotty- First of all, stay away from Internet medical sites!
You probably had a totally benign episode of vertigo, which happens to millions of people for no apparent reason. It's sudden, just like you described, brief, and goes away. I think the fact that you still feel "off" and weird, is fear. It made you terribly anxious and anxiety can make one feel awfully lightheaded.

Dizziness lasting a few seconds is usually due to a debris in your balance apparatus in your inner ear, called benign positional vertigo.

It could have been a sudden blood sugar drop as well.
Get some good sleep...don't let yourself get dehydrated, eat properly, and stop looking up symptoms(!).

Episodes of vertigo, as long as there are no other unusual symptoms, are quite common and nothing to worry about unless they become frequent.

zuzu xx

Re: Dizzy/Vertigo - reassure me!

I will second the above post. Stay away from Internet medical sites! If you want to find something bad, you will. That causes more stress. I did that once with a problem I was having and decided to not do it again. The problem ended up being nothing, but in 1% of the cases it could be serious. I have found this board more helpful than going to any Internet medical site. The people on here are great.

Re: Dizzy/Vertigo - reassure me!

i get dizziness ALL THE TIME. Sometimes every other day. I have an appointment with an ear doctor, I'm getting tested for Miners Disease, I think its something with your inner ear. I know how you feel. When you get a dizzy spell you can take bonamine its available over the counter in chewable form (it works faster)! But def. go to your doctor. Ive had this dizziness for over a yr now, but recently i get it more frequently
