Menieres/vertigo

Hello
I am new to this board so forgive me if i ask and make obvious points.
I have suffered with tinnitus for years but have just got on with things as normal, until the last six months where I started having dizzy spells when ever an attack of buzzing in the ears started. This happened a couple of times when driving and at work and was quite alarming.
I have been told by the doc that i may have menieres and i have been prescribed Betahistine. This has reduced the number of attacks but recently i have nearly fallen and also bumped into walls when an attack happens.
I am due to return to work shortly but i am concerned that i may have an attack there and put myself at risk. i am also worried about driving.
Has anyone else tried betahistine? did it work for them? is it normal to be tired and worn out all day? sleep is disrupted because when laying down an attack comes on and can keep me awake for hours.
Regards
Alf

Re: Menieres/vertigo

i have a problem with dizziness. it started about 10 years ago. i first noticed it when i was trying to walk back to the vehicle i was driving. i was looking at the vehicle, and the passengers in it, but i was not walking towards it. then it was over. i thought it was just a one time thing. but over the years, it has progressed. i would get dizzy when i was eating, when i was sitting, when i was working, when i was driving, when i was standing talking to someone. then yesterday, i actually fell over. i had done it before but i was able to catch myself. i wasnt able to yesterday. i dont know whats wrong, i have no ringing in my ears before it happens, i have no warning whatsoever. the whole world spins so violently, and i get very nauseous, and for a long time afterward. when it happens, for the rest of the day, i am not myself. if anyone has any advice at all, please help. i have an appt tomorrow, but i just dont know what to do.

Re: Menieres/vertigo

Don't panic. I know it's alarming and it's really scary. It could very well be inner ear related. Which in that sense is not life threatening. Although I know it is life altering. Go to the ear doctor and if they just tell you to "live with it" go to a neuro-otologist (spelling may be off a little). They are the experts in dizziness. This isn't something you have suffer with, you can get help. Be persistent, and look for answers. Find a good doctor who will be supportive. I just want to warn you, that most doctors won't be as supportive as you might want them to be. So keep pushing and looking for answers. I really hope this gets better for you. Keep us posted on what is going on.
Good Luck
