Re: what kind of doctor treats vertigo?

vertigo has many causes, but a reasonable place to start is with an ENT

Don't forget the doc who specializes in inner ear issues, the neurotologist...check out VEDA web site for docs near you. These guys are also familiar with migraine causes of dizziness. It's a great idea to see this doc when you are having acute symptoms.

Best of luck,
Violet

Re: what kind of doctor treats vertigo?

Hi,

Personally, I'd avoid an ENT. They never seem to understand migraine as THE major cause of this garbage and will say it's allergy or your sinuses. Instead, they like to pull out the scalpel and remove chunks of sinus. This I heard directly from the dizzy guru in Sydney, Prof Halmagyi. Look for a neuro-otologist.

Best ... Scott

Re: what kind of doctor treats vertigo?

Hey Scott the Sydney-sider,

I've been to Professor H quite a few times (love that four months waiting list) couldn't do a thing for me, except tell me what I didn't have which is OK because it's good to know I don't have MS or a brain tumor. Was he able to do anything for you?

Re: what kind of doctor treats vertigo?

I've had an imbalance problem for about 2 years now, after an underground tube journey in London, and a subsequent flight. I'm now speaking with Dr T. Hain in Chicago at the moment and he seems to be the best there is. He does phone consultations so hope this helps.

I am seeing Dr. Hain too...he's certainly well respected, very much a wonk, knows his stuff, and spends a lot of time with you. No answers yet. "Cautious waiting" is the period I'm in for my Perilymph Fistula (at least that's what he thinks it is). I agree, they are very kind and responsive. Good luck!
