Question TMJD can it cause dizziness/vertigo?

I have been suffering with several types of dizziness and vertigo since the age of 9 (now 30) and have since been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and Hypothyroidism. These both cause dizziness and the MS has shown this on the MRI scan. I also suffer with TMJD and it clicks everytime I eat anything.

I wonderered whether it could be partly to blame? I have suffered recently with a blocked ear sensation and general dizziness (not spinning) that comes intermittently. Do TMJD symptoms come intermittently or are they there permanently?

Many thanks for your help.

Yes, dizziness was my primary symptom when they diagnosed me with TMJ. Its from muscles and pain shooting around your ears. Its not a spinning dizziness, more like a disorientation.

My doc has said its one of the lesser symptoms. My dentist disn't even ask if I had any other symptoms. My doc is sending me for physio. I don't have pain in my ears just an occasional blocked feeling. Do you get the dizziness and pain all the time or does it come and go?

it comes and goes, its not always with me. I dont have ear pain either, but typically I get a dizzy spell after subconsciously grinding my jaws together.

Re: TMJD can it cause dizziness/vertigo?

I also have MS- since 1992- brain and spinal tap positive, but these tmj symtoms are different than my MS symtoms, I know the difference. I have had some dizziness with the MS but its different than the dizziness I now get when they adjust my splints or teeth which I think is fromt the upper neck then , so my symptoms are just different and hard to explain the difference.

The dizziness I get from the MS is more of an unbalance to where I'll fall into the wall or backwards or walk like I'm drunk type of dizziness.

Re: TMJD can it cause dizziness/vertigo?

Wow, thanks for your reply...I didn't expect a reply from an mser!
My MRI shows that I have scaring in the area that causes balance and dizziness. What I definately know is that I get balance problems (walking into doors, falling over etc) and I also have a vertigo problem when jumping on say a trampoline or going in an aeroplane that turns (it intensifies it all).

The other dizziness I get is a feeling of not being in a steady space, like say floating on a cloud or feeling lightheaded. I get quite anxious with them.

My doc is sending me for physio on my jaw and my dizzy specialist doesn't believe there is any link. Can you describe the dixxiness you get with the TMJD?

Many thanks
Claire
