Constant dizziness, 24/7 vertigo - Dizziness / Vertigo Message Board

I started being dizzy Dec 9th and haven't stopped every since. Seen the Dr. and they say I have Vertigo. Some days I can fuction fairly well others all I can do is lay down most of the day it makes me vomit from the spinning. Dr. wants to put me through MRI and tests. I'm uninsured because I'm self employed and from all that I've heard most don't turn up any results

He says if it's a virul infection there is nothing he can do for me .... I'm so tired from being like this

If anyhow has ANY suggestions about if I should see an allergy doctor instead.. (I have been to an ear specialist)... I just don't know what to do and I can't take this for months

Hi. You may just have a viral flu or infection and time will tell you that. Many things can cause vertigo. Rather than jump to an allergist, why don't you see a good Internist, a doctor who specializes in most diseases and they usually do the referring once a diagnosis is made. Usually an MRI isn't done immediately anyway. I had severe vertigo last August and it took a couple of months to diagnose me. I have a very rare disorder, an acoustic neuroma and this did show up on a contrast MRI. I am almost positive you don't have this because you didn't mention all the other symptoms I had.
Are you taking any new meds.? How is your blood pressure? Have you had a flu bug? An infection? An earache? Rest for now and if things continue, see an Internist if you can swing it financially. Have you checked out medical assistance?

I don't know if you are feeling any better but maybe I can help a bit. My daughter had a inner ear viral infection and has been feeling dizzy since october last year. She has seen many doctors and has had an MRI scan ( which showed up nothing) she has just been to another doctor who has told her that she has a damaged nerve in her ear but that, with exercise, she will get better in a few months. there are certain exercises that you have to do and the WORSE thing you can do is just to sit still. You must remain active ( go to a gym) but just not overdo things.
Reading all these other letters it seems to me that it is also best if you try to stay off medication.

I had dizziness constantly as well as nausea, i had an mri and anything else you can be tested for and all came up negative. Eventually it was discovered that I ahd an imbalance in my ear.

I dont know the technical names but the fluid that is naturally found in your ears that allows you to retain balance, was moving too fast over the hairs in my ears, just another suggestion.

I have had similar dizziness since Thanksgiving. It started out as 24/7 and extreme but it has since tapered off a little. I normally have at least one episode a day lasting any where from a couple minutes to an hour. It's worse when I'm sitting so the exercise comment is probably a good one. My doctor has done an EKG and an Echo and found nothing. How is an inner ear condition diagnosed?? I've heard that these can last a year or more and that most complaints of dizziness are never explained. I'm still seeing a doctor and waiting for the next step.
