Please Please Help (Brain fog,confusion,dizziness)

Alright this is probably going to be long, so I apologize. I am a student at the University of Kentucky. It is my second year. I have never had any real problems in my life and cannot recal why anything would change. So here is my story. Just over 1 month ago, my friends and I were out to lunch on a Sunday. Everything was fine and then, BAM, I got very disoriented. I did not know what was going on and I had to get up and leave the restaurant. I thought I may have been having a heart attack or something. I ended up walking two miles back to my house just praying that I was not having a heart attack and all of this would figure itself out later on.

So I went home and had the same symptoms. It was a spacey feeling. Not vertigo and not dizziness. I just felt like I was not controlling myself. So, the next day I went to the clinic. They had pushed it off as heartburn? (these people are terrible) I was convinced she was right though, so I took the heartburn medicine. Nothing got better and I was still feeling this awful awful headache/dizziness/spaceyness. The next night, it got so bad that I ended up going to the ER. I did not know what to do and felt like I was seriously going to die or something, so I went there. After taking a chest X-Ray, Urinalysis, and EKG, I was sent home with a sinus problem. I was given some allergy medicine and also some sudafed. I thought for sure that this was going to help. I remained optimistic. After another week of this not getting any better, I decided to go home to see my family doctor. Keep in mind, these symptoms were happening at all seconds of the day. There has not been 1 minute in the last month where I have not felt out of it. I was also having some chest like pains, but they were not severe.

So, after all of this, I went to see my doctor at home. Right away, she thought it was a sinus problem as well. She prescribed me 500 mg Levaquin and I was sure that this was going to do the trick and I could get back to school and living my normal life. After about 6 days on the Levaquin, I realized that it was not working. I went ahead and finished out the prescription, but nothing changed. I was so brokenhearted after I found out that this was not the problem. This is honestly changing my life.

After I went back to the doctor again, she ordered me a blood test as well as an MRI of my brain. I am still waiting on results from the blood test, but the MRI came back normal. Although it was a good sign it came back normal, I was almost upset that they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me through that. My family has a history of high blood pressure and even though it is known as the "silent killer," I thought this might have something to do with it. My brother said he felt ill and then went on his medication and it seemed to help him. I decided to give this a shot as well! What do you know, after 4 days on the medicine, still no changes. I am very worried if I will ever be normal again. I know a month does not sound like a long time, but this has been the worst month of my entire life. I dont want to sound like I am complaining or anything, but I just cant handle this anymore.

I am currently back down at school and trying to study for my final exams. I can not even study anymore because I have this awful feeling in my head like I described earlier. Some other symptoms that I have are my eyes get very dialated and I get a headache, slight chest pain, sometimes an increased heartrate, often times have tingling in the arms, legs, toes, and hands, and also a dry mouth. The main symptom that I can see that will possibly help find a cause to this would the how it came about me. As I said, it was very sudden and all happened in an instant. I also forgot to mention that I had a cold for about a week before this happened. I am a little overweight, but not obese. I get good exercise and I am very active. I eat like any other college student. Not a great diet, but I try to watch what I eat. I am a social drinker and drink anywhere from 2 to 3 times per week.

I also used to dip chewing tobacco, but I have quit that as well. I also used to smoke a fair amount of marijuana. Maybe 5 or 6 times a week. I had also smoked the morning that this had happened to me. Since the day that this happened, I have no drank, dipped, or smoked. It has not been hard since I was never addicted, I just did it with my friends. And one last thing to note. My wisdom teeth were impacted and they thought that might have been the cause of this, but I recently had them taken out and that was not the cause. A few more symptoms that I would like to include are brain fog (I guess thats what it is), mild confusion, lack of ability to concentrate, decreased memory, trouble remembering things, and feelings that I am going crazy.

Sorry for this long post, but I wanted to get all of the details out there. Please Please Please if anyone has any information regarding my symptoms, I would love to hear it. If you have gone through a similar situation, I would also love to hear it. I am open for any advice or any stories. I just want to get my life back and continue on being a college student. Thanks so much for your time!

Also one more thing, I have had a fullness in my ears. Like I have to pop them at least 20 times a day. One more symptom I forgot about was blurred vision. We went to an optomitrist to have my eyes checked to see if that could be the problem as well. 20/20 vision.

Re: Please Read this..Please

What kind of bloodwork did you have done? Anything related to the thyroid? It could have something to do with your CBC, so please post these results when you get them. And have you ever had any inner ear problems?

I hope you figure out why you're feeling so poorly soon.

Re: Please Read this..Please

Thank you, so do I! But we are going to check for thyroid issues as well. But I dont think it is that because my glands are not really swollen or anything. I am not sure what type of blood work that I am getting done, but I will post the results of it when I am finished. And no, I have not previously had any inner ear problems. I think they said though the next step to finding out what is wrong with me is sending me to an ENT and also a neurologist. Thanks again

Re: Please Please Help (Brain fog, confusion, dizziness)

Dude, you are describing exactly how I feel And it happened a little over a month ago too!
Although sometimes I feel like killing myself because I get desperate. I also get panic attacks out of nowhere.
I was out on a Saturday night getting high and drinking beer, Till I went to bed. Ive been dizzy and out of it for about 1 month and 3 weeks. I just got used to it and pray for it to go away. I also get the tingly sensation all over my body and usually when that happens I start to trip out bad. Ive also seen doctors and other people and they all say its nothing. I get so sick of people saying its nothing because they dont know how I feel every ******* day. I feel like if I'm alone in this world and that I will never be able to get my life back to normal too. I regret so bad doing MJ and drinking because it ****** me up so bad. Now what happens with me is I trip out like i think im in a dream, but im awake, and then just kinda deal with it. I also get stomach aches. I feel most normal when Im waking up or when im in bed awake.
Hey man, For real your post/story is super Identical to mine I hope we get our lives back to normal soon.
Even if it means taking medicine everyday to feel normal. Also I read somewhere,( I forgot were) But it seems like we have panic and anxiety disorders, those drugs really ****** us up! That we should tell a specialist about the anxiety and panic disorders and get some medicine. I read that they really do help to calm stuff down to where you can control your body and do what you used to do. I hope there is a cure for me out there. And also, my vision has gotten bad like things in the corner of my eyes of and I look to see what is there and there isn't anything moving there.

Re: Please Please Help (Brain fog, confusion, dizziness)

Yeah dude, its insane. I have no idea if it is because of smoking pot and drinking, but I mean it could be. I am going to a neurologist in about a week before I have to go down to school, so I will let you know what they say. But yeah man, Im sorry, it really is so fu**** up. Afraid to do anything and always feel like you are dreaming. When I wake up is the only time I feel good as well. My dreams are even crazy sometimes. But we will get through this man. Keep your head up and good **** will come around eventually. And if you dont mind me asking... how old are you and how much do you weigh? Take care dude..

Re: Please Please Help (Brain fog, confusion, dizziness)

Sorry for how you are feeling. I would like to tell you that in July of 2009 I started feeling reallly funny in the head where I could not focus. Unbalanced and confused. I basically felt and looked like I was drunk. My left side of my body from head to my toes felt knumb. I was told maybe I was having silent migranes or possible mini siezures. Doctors basically had no idea and put me on siezure med. called Lamictal. I would have good days where I almost felt fine to days where I could not drive or even walk. When the episodes were extreme I felt like I was having a heart attack or something. I was embarressed if someone saw me walking like I was drunk. For a year and a half I suffered with this with no explantion to be given to me. Until the beginning of Nov. of 2010 I had a really bad episode where I could not focus at all. I was driving my daughter to an appt.(thank god I had my cousin with me). the appt was an hours drive from me. I could feel my head getting worse the farther I drove. I was one block from my destination and I couldn't do it. It got so bad and really scared the heck out of me. My 19yr. old cousin who never drove a big SUV threw a large city had to take over and took me to the E.R. and basically got no results. Went back to my neurologist..ended up with a different doctor due to him on vacation. Well thank to the doctor that took his appt. because she sent me to a Ear nose and Throat Specialist for vestibular testing. After four hours of various testing I got my diagnosis. Severe BI-LATERAL VESTIBULAR LOSS. Unfortunatly though I will deal with this the rest of my life but now I know I'm not crazy. I've just begun Vestibular therapy. I would like you to know to please do not give up on getting answers alot of how you feel is simalar to what I was going threw. Best of luck to you.

Re: Please Please Help (Brain fog, confusion, dizziness)

It could be a vestibular migraine. A Neurologist would be the best person to see regarding this.
