Question undiagnosed vertigo

Okay, here goes.
They keep saying is the room spinning or are you spinning. I can't describe the feeling. Neither is spinning. I feel off balance. I describe it as mu brain floating on liquid jello. I get dizzy when driving. I am fine laying down, but I can't spend the rest of my life laying down. I start off okay, but the longer I am up moving around, the worse it gets. Sitting is better that standing, but still get a little 'woozy'. At times it is so bad it almost feels like a vibration in my head. Lighting in stores seem to make it worse and lots of noise. Almost like a sensory overload. I am also having trouble thinking clearly. The worse my dizziness gets the worse my head hurts. I have taken migraine meds just to make it stop hurting, though I doubt it is migraine. I have to use a cane or walker to get around for fear of falling. I have been out of work since this started.

About 6 weeks ago I woke up with vertigo. I started out with pneumonia and when I started feeling better I woke up with vertigo. I have and blood work, normal. I have had a ct scan of my head, normal. I had IV fluids. I was given blood pressure meds, which dropped my blood pressure down to 102/69, stopped those. I have had an mri of my head and neck, 'normal'. I had the 2 hour vestibular testing, normal My doctors are at a loss and I am frustrated and beyond depressed since no one can seem to find out what is causing my vertigo.

I hope someone else can help. Maybe has the same symptoms.????

Re: undiagnosed vertigo

Let's see if we can give you some ideas.

One thing that caught my eye is that it sounds like you have a history of migraines. You said that you took migraine medications to help, do you feel that this temporarily relieved the dizziness?

Re: undiagnosed vertigo

The medications only help the headaches that follow at the end of the day. The more I move and walk around the worse the dizziness gets and then the headaches start. Sometimes the tylenol does not work fast enough so I use migraine meds to stop the headache. But does not stop the dizziness. Thanks though. I hope to get an answer soon.

Re: undiagnosed vertigo

The reason I focused on the prevalence of migraines is because Migraine Associated Vertigo is found in many migraine sufferers. It seems that your dizziness does correlate with your migraines, there seems to be a pattern. Additionally, your sensitivity to light and sound support the possibility of MAV.

I would discuss the possibility of MAV with your doctor and get a referral to a neurologist if necessary. There are special medications which have been quite successful in treating MAV.

Re: undiagnosed vertigo

I gave been seeing a neurologist. He "personally does not believe this is migraine associated vertigo". But I did go to the eye dr. today and he thinks this may be visual associated vertigo. I am going in again tomorrow for more diagnostic work up. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for your responses though.

Thumbs up Re: undiagnosed vertigo

HI, I have similar problems with dizziness. I found that if I take half of an antihistimine it goes away. It's an awful feeling and I know what you're going through. Try the generic antihistimine, (compare to Benedril) I hope it helps. I take it not for a stuffy nose, but for the dizziness.
Hope this helps.

Re: undiagnosed vertigo

Did you have any head trauma even slight prior to the symptoms? I was in an accident and had very similar issues I ended up going to an eye specialist who diagnosed me with "mid-line vision shift".

Re: undiagnosed vertigo

Hi,
I just found your post through searching the internet under 'undiagnosed vertigo'. I have been having almost the exact same symptoms that you have been experiencing for almost a year now. Seem to have been through the same tests etc that you have also. I noticed thought that you posted this some time ago, just wondering how things are with you now and whther you have had any luck? Hope you are feeling better now? Thanks
