Post Chronis Dizziness (1 year and 1 month) (age 23)

Hi. I am attempting to reach out to people for support/ answers on here due to not being able to get any answers for over the past year.

I am currently suffering with what i would describe as 24/7 drunkenness. I am constantly dizzy/ lightheaded and the easiest way to describe it is as if i am constantly under the influence of alcohol (woozy, dizzy etc).

It all happened last year July when i went out with a few mates and got considerably drunk. I remember coming home to vomiting black coffee grounds (went to ER, was find the next day so the bleeding was induced by alcohol. i do suffer with heartburn also). When i was vomiting i was in the most awkward of positions, ie; laying on my side with my head off angle touching the floor and i was vomiting in that position, i don't think i vomited so much in my entire life.

It came to the next day and i felt hungover and dizzy but put this down to alcohol. The dizziness lasted a week and carried on. I have been to the doctors numerous times and they have gave me blood tests, urine tests, etc etc with everything coming back as normal. Iv'e had tablets for anxiety/ depression which didn't do anything and im currently still on a waiting list for neurology (1 year later) and am currently seeing physio as i personally think that it is neck related due to the position i was in when vomiting. I am also due to see a ENT specialist because i seem to have a deviated septum and wet ears (whether that has anything to do with it i dont know). The more and more i think about it, the more i assume its the vomiting in the awkward position because it came on all of a sudden. I do get nausea sometimes, but not everyday. Im putting that down to irregular eating. I have not lost weight, infact i put it on due to the anxiety media cation, mirtazipine.

I haven't let it take over my life and have worked and done my daily routine as i would if this was not existent (cycling, exercises, working, driving, dog walking etcetc).

I am currently waiting for an appointment for a Doppler exam? which is some form of CT scan of the next i believe because the physio is adamant that it is something to do with my neck as i don't like extensions of the neck and so on.

Any advice or tips would be great as im due to start a new job which i am very excited about but feel that the illness/ problem will drag my attitude/ motivation down.

Thank you in advance.

Daniel Jones.

Hi Daniel,

I am so sorry you have been feeling like that for so long!! My advice to you with starting your new job is to stay positive and know you WILL get better. If it's an inner ear disorder of some type, they do heal.
I started feeling that same drunk feeling, like I was on a boat with weird vision problems about 3 months ago. The anxiety with it has caused a whole host of other symptoms which seem to be worse than the dizziness and vision problems.
Let me know what the tests say. I also had a CT Scan that was normal. Thanks goodness.

Be well,
Jen

Hi! Its nice to be able to speak to someone who is experiencing the same issues. IMO i still think its something to do with my neck due to the position and the amount i heaved/ vomited. Were you able to see the dizziness off, or are you still suffering? If so, what was the problem with yourself?

Thank you.

It might be your neck. It's very possible. Are you able to get an X-ray? I have been thinking about that, but am seeing an eye Dr next week first to rule out an eye problem. My dizziness comes and goes. I wish I knew what it was. Two dr's said inner ear and one thinks neck issue. Tonight it's really bad. But, trying to stay positive!!

TBH, my I ended up going to a neck and back clinic after reading a few forums about neck issues. Only then did the doctor decide to send me to Physio for further analysis. I think I am going to go to the doctors this week (week off work before i start my new job) and ask about a MRI scan of the neck and also an xray as its been going on for long enough. One of the doctors thought it might be an inner ear problem because i have some inflammation, as if i have just gotten over a cold? Hence seeing the ENT specialist. I have tried Vertigo medicine too which proved useless apart from curing my nausea.

It's soooo frustrating not knowing if it's your inner ear or neck or what. The symptoms present themselves so similar.

i know. the problem comes when it may not even be my neck or ENT. . the more i think about it, because of what happened that evening, its pointing more towards something in my neck due to the position etc.

Re: Chronis Dizziness (1 year and 1 month) (age 23)

Just an update.
Since i last posted, I have been to the neurologist, had an MRI scan of my brain and nothing found. Everything is as normal.

I feel as if the symptoms have eased up slightly, or it may just be myself getting more and more used to it as time goes on.

What I have found more recently though, is that I have been suffering with severe neck pain (more with stress). With this I have also found that if i tilt my neck in a direction that would allow me to look up and to the right, i get a ringing in my left ear?

Would anyone have any ideas about this?

I have also found that I am easier to, scare/ or make jump, if that makes sense. The slightest unexpected noise will send a weird surge through my body to my head, and cause a brief moment, of severe dizziness (half a second).

Any suggestions?

Thanks
