My name is Lacinda, I'm 20 and been living with severe veritgo or something else since I was 2 years old. It all started with a seizure when I was 2 and has gone downhill from there. For the last 18 years I've had these really bad dizzy spells or attacks that occur from every 2 weeks to 3 months. During these attacks it feels like the whole world is spinning, vomiting almost constantly, diarrhea, headaches, and a fever. I'm unable to open my eyes, stand up, or move. I have to be in a cold and dark room and they last about 8-24 hours. About 6 years ago it starting getting worse and I started missing too much school. Since then I've had to drop out because I'm so dizzy that I can't even sit up for more than a few minutes without getting really dizzy. I'm constantly dizzy even when I'm asleep. Only about a year ago was I diagnosed with Vertigo. 17 years of seeing specialists and I've only just been diagnosed. The dizziness is just starting to get too much for me to handle.
I know it has been a long road and you must be very worried. I too suffered from dizziness and vertigo and migraines for years. Have you been checked by a neurologist or a neurosurgeon?
I've been seeing different Neurologists since they began. I've been to 6 different in the period of 18 years. I saw one for about 12 years. He was a Child Neurologists. And now I go to one that affiliated with our hospitra. I've had MRI's, Cat scans, EPM, Sleep Studies, seen a Otolaryngologist and still nothing. All they've been able to do is finally say that I have vertigo. I take Lamotringe, Verapamil and Meclizine. They don't work but it's the best that they can give me. I used to be only on Propranolol when they thought that it was dizzy spells.
