Please explain Early Intervention. - Down Syndrome Message Board

Hello Everyone. I am 31 weeks pregnant with twins and have just been told there is a possibility that one twin has DS. I realize that not many people will be in a similar situation (twins & DS); however, I am seeking DS specific information in order to best prepare our family for this possibility.

A number of the messages on this board have talked about Early Intervention, when that should begin, and the benefits it can provide. I have an opportunity to begin assisting my child right from birth and would like to find out as much information as I can. If anyone can elaborate on what Early Intervention encompasses, I would greatly appreciate the response.

I am sure you will find some information about Early Intervention at one of these sites, but thought I would give a little information about it here. Locally, Early Intervention includes Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapies, as well as a teacher to encourage educational development.
