Hi everyone..

Hope your all well and good ?

I have a son who has DS and he is my little treasure.. he doesn't sleep very well at all and snores like a trooper !! haha.. it doesn't matter what time he goes to sleep he's awake at 4am and on the go all day !! he wakes up during the night lots but my doc has no answers and hasn't helped one bit !! he has to have an ear , nose and throat referral but i'm not sure on what will be done during the process ?? has anyone gone through anything simular ?? Some one said he may need his tonsils out and i have no idea if thats the case ?? thanks xx

My son was a huge snorer. He had his adnoids out. He also used to pause in his breathing while sleeping. Our ENT said this was common in kids with downs. Maybe this is whats waking your son up. Good Luck!

my son zachary had his tonsils and adnoids out in june 2008 and before that, could he snore. he has always gone to bed about 6:30/7:00 and gets up about the same time in the mornings. he goes about 100 miles an hour all day.

Our daughter made lots of noise prior to having tonsils and adenoids removed. She has since started using a C-PAP machine to combat sleep apnea. She was tested and was waking up 500 times per night! That is hard on the heart and we were very concerned. Just having the air blowing into the nose controls her breathing. She no longer slept in the car within two minutes and stopped sleeping in school.
She speaks well but uses a "sign" for the mask--hand over the nose area...I thought that was pretty good! She was taught some signing as an infant and still uses on occasion.

Hi I have a downs daughter.She snores so loud! I asked the Dr and what it is ,is the flap that opens for air and closes when you eat. It is floppy cartilage and the flap when closing doesn't seal tight so air gets in and makes it flap making her snore.He says that in time her muscle tone will strenghten and then it should be stronger to seal tighter.Good luck!
