I am pregnant@ 41 with my first ever baby. The cvs just came back positive for Downs Syndrome. I will be terminating the pregnancy but I am already feeling that I will never have an opportunity to be a mother of a healthy child. The genetic councelor is telling me that it's rare that a 1st diagnosis will be followed by a 2nd pregnancy resulting in the same diagnosis. But mentally I'm tired, scared and unsure. Is there any questions I should be asking while they are still growing the CVS sample to help give me answers for possible future problems..IF I decide to try again?

Maybe you should reconsider the termination. You can have a perfectly "healthy" child with downs and an "unhealthy child" without downs. It is a child, one that will love you and will need your love. This is the child that you have been blessed with and yes you may not have another chance.

I am a mother (38 year) of two children - a girl (29months, non down syndrome) and a boy (13 months with down syndrome) and hopefully in the very near future i will conceive another baby.

I haven't ever had any prenatal tests and won't in the future as i wouldn't know what to do with any possible diagnosis. I would not change anything about either of my two children and can only imagine your turmoil.

I just want you to know that i send you good wishes, lots of goodwill and wishes for peace.
