cumadin - Drug Interactions / Side Effects Message Board

I have been on CUMADIN for two years and have noticed increasing weakness in my legs. My doctor prescribed this med. due to a blood clot that put me in hospital for about a week and a half. Is there a long term problem with this med? I also take ALTACE, CELEBREX and Tylenol 3. My age is 75. What do you advise? Thank you, Paul

Careful on that stuff. My mom also had it for a blood clot and hit her head on my shower while visiting me and two weeks later had a hematoma (bleed in her brain). It almost killed her.

Her symptoms were fever, headache, chills, vomiting and eventually her whole left side was numb.

Make sure you get your blood checked regularly and if you bump your head, get an MRI.

Padbo, I've been on Coumadin (warfarin) for close to five years because I tend to atrial fibrillation.

The most critical thing is to have your prothrombin time titrated and checked semi-monthly or monthly, depending on what your doctor specifies.

I've had no problems with excessive bleeding on the medicine, but my cardiologist is adamant about keeping the pro-time between 2 and 3.

People are on Coumadin for years without any problems and I doubt your leg weakness is caused by it. (I would hope that you are on a strict schedule of blood work to be sure the dosage is correct from week to week). I am guessing you have developed another diagnoses with leg weakness. However, Altace can cause muscle weakness. You need to check with your doctor to sort it all out.
