Unhappy Prozac, Welbutrin, & alcohol... personality change?

I had the absolute worst experience this past friday... I thought maybe someone slipped something in my drink (which is still very possible) but I am also wondering how I lost over half the night.... I obviously had a few more drinks that I should've but I dont drink where i black out... and now I have two or three occasions where I dont remember over half the night... I've done some really horrible things during these 'lost hours'. I can't undo what happened. I dont even remember doing anything - and what was done is so out of character for me. If anyone has any insight on the actual effects of welbutrin & prozac with alcohol, please tell me i'm not alone...

You are not alone. I am on two meds.(one anti-depressant) I am not suppose to drink much alcohol with, and, I forgot to eat dinner! I drank waaaay too much and don't barely remember half the night. I embarrassed myself awful. These things are definitly out of character for me. My neighbors know me as having a very clean reputation. This one night I can barely, hazily remember, has left this an emotional, spiritual and physical scar on me. Plus a rather a big bruise on my face because I fell on it. (My left eye looks like I got punched. I bumped my head hard, I think, on the neighbors house, or stairs, waiting for catscan results) One of the meds I think I can go without, I think lowers my inibitions and weakens my resolves to begin with???? I am working on getting off of.
Alcohol is a double edge sword. It can really hurt. It only heals in very small amounts. You are not alone. I hope we don't repeat these type of nights. I wish someone had been there to tell me to slow down or sit down or "hey, we are all going home now, you too" But I guess the people I was with, was just as messed up too.? I shouldn't have even been there to begin with.It was all my own fault. No one elses. Not even my meds fault. We all make mistakes. But we just need to move on and try not to make them again? You are not alone.
Your post really helped me. I am reminded to examine my own behavior and see how I can make adjustments. Thank you so much for posting. Be Safe.

Question Re: Prozac, Welbutrin, & alcohol... personality change?

You are not alone...my ex had the same issue. Somewhere mid way thru thE evening she would drink (she seemed normal) but the next day she couldn't remember going to bed, making love, how glasses and food showed up on the counter etc. It got to where if she was drinking I never knew what I was going to happen next. Every morning she'd be so embarrassed. And would swear Off booze. (until a couple days passed and it happened all over again) now she did like to smoke pot so that may have had something to do with it. Has that been part of the thing with you too ( pot)?

Alcohol should be avoided at all costs on Prozac and other Antidepressants...
If you choose to drink while on it,try to drink only small amounts.
The Prozac and the Wellbutrin will BOTH intensify the effect of the alcohol.
One drink is going to be more like 3 drinks....

I was on Cymbalta for a month and a half....
It was suppose to be for chronic pain?
While I was waiting for it to work...it gave me insomnia and headaches
both which some wine seemed to help
The mistakes I made was adding more than wine to the mix (liquor)
that one night I wrote about....(in this thread)

After that night....I realized I was trying to overcome side effects of a med I didn't want or need....it didn't work for my chronic pain....it gave me more problems after all

Now, I am still on Topamax and have a couple glasses of wine once a month...
It's barely enjoyable...useless to go beyond that. It's not worth feeling so awful.

My bad,the thread title mentions Prozac and wellbutrin.
I have had VERY bad experiences trying to drink on Prozac,so that is why I responded.
Cymbalta is a antidepressant though even if it was prescribed for pain and that is probably why you had trouble drinking on it.

I enjoy wine too,but since I'm on Prozac I have learned to cut way back.
Now when I have it,I only have like one glass.

You were right on target responding.
At the time, I felt I needed to post to aid my healing...

Even with the Topamax one drink feels like 2 etc.
I have come a long way since June....

Thanks for posting...gives me a chance to reflect
hope we help other readers

Re: Prozac, Welbutrin, & alcohol... personality change?

I've been on a few antidepressants and as far as I know, all the literature says do not mix alcohol with these meds. My Prozac and Wellbutrin bottles specifically say to not drink alcohol. Take it for what it's worth, but you could cause serious brain/nerve damage if you mix these drugs and booze.

I have tried taking a sip of my wife's wine on occasion and find that merely touching my lips to a small bit of alcohol feels like I've had a high dose of methanol. Even a small taste makes me feel sick. Don't know if you have had this reaction, but it's changed my life: no booze ever!
