My ex-husband and his father have dyslexia and my youngest son was diagnosed with having dyslexia last December. I was never diagnosed as having dyslexia but, I can remember in K-2nd having problems writing some letters and numbers correctly. Also problems retaining and comprehending thing's that I read in my twenties. I know dyslexia is hereditary but, is some degree of getting things backwards and having trouble retaining what's read until later in life a little normal?

The backwords thing really doesn't have anything to do with dyslexia but, happens to people with learning disabilities in general, dsylexia It is a specific language-based disorder of constitutional
origin characterized by difficulties in single word decoding, usually reflecting insufficient phonological processing
abilities. These difficulties in single word decoding are often unexpected in relation to age and other cognitive and
academic abilities; they are not the result of generalized developmental disability or sensory impairment. Dyslexia is
manifest by variable difficulty with different forms of language, often including, in addition to problems reading, a
conspicuous problem with acquiring proficiency in writing and spelling.

Yes it can be genitic, some also belive it can be caused by enviromental factors or a combination of both,,

the thing is dyslexia can be helped so the earilyer you get help the better off you will be...
