Fear of Choking! Please help!:(

Here is my situation
I am a 29 year old male with a sudden onset of dysphagia or what I think is dysphagia. I have been through all of the doctors, GI, ENT, etc, no one can really find anything wrong with me..
Here are the tests I have had
1. Barium Swallow-came back ok
2. CT scan-came back ok
3. X ray-came back ok
4. ENT did a scope of my upper throat-came back ok-he thought maybe acid reflux but he was not sure..so he put me on prilosec..I have been on it since end of April
5. I had a GI doc to a complete upper GI. He did a biopsy. I do have some eosinphillic cells in my esophagus, but not enough to cause a problem swallowing. It could be caused by acid reflux..they aren't sure..but they said that could not have caused my problem swallowing. People needs more than 20 to have a specific condition and mine were less than 5..

Today I have a sore throat

So now I have not been able to eat right for a month and a half..I have been having trouble swallowing solids..I have been pureeing everything and eating semisolids..Is this all in my head? Anyone have a similar experience?

Re: Fear of Choking! Please help!:(

Hi,

I understand your pain and feel for you. I am actually going through the same thing...for almost 3 years now! Finally went to the doc and took an esophogram which came out normal. I was told though that my problem could be due to the fact of my muscles around my mouth have weakened. I suffered a loss of oxygen after birth, so my muscles are tight and I needed some pt.

Anyway, the doc suggested I see a speech pathologist for exercises. I have yet to find one since I'm working crazy hours.

Why don't you look into that? I really think that it could also be psychological too. Before I suffered choking, little things in my throat wouldn't bother me at all, yet now, the slightest sensation causes so much panic that I make it so much worse. Try to eat as if it is like it was before. Do you have trouble manuvoring food? I think w/you it sounds all psychological to me.
