Question Too much mucus a problem or not?

I have non-allergic rhinitis; I use saline & prescrip nosesprays daily. I still swallow a lot of mucus on a regular basis. I always have PND. What I want to know is if swallowing thick mucus can make a person feel queasy. I often experience nausea and I often wonder if it is related to my overactive mucus production. Anyone with a similar problem? Thanks.

Ya I have sinus congestion right now, swallowing lot of mucous again. It started up 10 days after using prescrip nosespray. Swallowing all that gunk makes me sick, threw up my dinner today. Wish these sinus problem goes away soon.

Re: Too much mucus a problem or not?

I have had post nasal drip for two years. It makes me very nauseous and sometimes results in vomiting. From what I have heard, it is very normal...

Re: Too much mucus a problem or not?

Yes, excess mucus production stimulates the production of acid in your stomach and causes all sorts of side effects: nausea, heart burn, acid reflux, lack of hunger. It is important to eat small amounts throughout the day versus a few big meals.. this will help cut down on the nausea.

Look in to a decongestant. Is your prescription for a nasal spray like nasonex/flonase/nasacort? If so look into a perconalgesic(sp), actual spray name - Ipratropium Bromide. This spray works to shut down some of the sites which generate mucus in your nose.

Sincerely,
MG
