Re: Here's a Doozy of a Question

Hi SoManyFeelings,
Yow. Did any doc explain how you lost hearing in your left ear after a hysterectomy? Cuz the two are not exactly related ... unless you had a strong course of antibiotics and suffered a reaction?

Well, I've got ringing in both ears. I've read that "tinnitis" (such as it's called) can be caused by many things. One cause is that the brain actually creates this tone as it tries to stimulate an ear to hear. So ironically, as one's hearing diminishes, it's not unusual for tinnitis to occur.

You might try wearing a hearing aid in that left ear, cuz sound picked up by the aid and transmitted to the ear will help mask the annoying ringing. Also, you might want to check out the American Tinnitis website at: to learn more about this condition. Hope that helps.
