Throat and tonsil problems

I have had swollen tonsils since I had mono 15 years ago (I'm 29). Every month since last August they have become inflammed, enlarged and painful (when I swallow it feels like I'm going to swallow them!).

I have also had a chronic sore throat with hoarseness for 2 1/2 years. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis a little less than a year ago and have resulting lymphanodenopathy (swollen lymph nodes).

My ears also crackle and every morning I wake up I feel like my throat is full of phlegm!

I'm going to request a referral to an ENT but in the meantime does any of this sound familiar to anyone else? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Kelly

Re: Throat and tonsil problems

Yup.

How have you dealt with this for so long!?!?

I have gotten tonsilitis and tonsil stones since I can remember. I got tonsilitis in Novemeber and it never went away. My tonsils were swollen, i had white pus and grossness that was making me gag. I always had phlegm and goo in the back of my throat that I coughed or barfed up... it was gross.

I got my tonsils out 2 1/2 weeks ago and it was horrible, but now that the pain is gone, I am so glad I did it.

So, I recommend gettin' those suckers out.

Re: Throat and tonsil problems

did your tonsil stones make you feel like you were swallowing over a lump and did they affect your jaw?

Re: Throat and tonsil problems

It always felt like there was something stuck in the back of my throat when I swallowed and it made me gag like there was no tomorrow....

My jaw never was sore.

Now, with all the gunk still in my throat from the tonsilectomy, i am still gagging on the time, i have to try not to think about it... man, stupid gag reflex.
