Sounds like it could be a tonsil stone. These stones are found within little pockets (crypts) in the tonsils that typically form in chronic recurrent tonsillitis and harbor bacteria.

The stones are foul-smelling. They tend to contain high quantities of sulfa. When crushed, they give off the characteristic rotten egg smell which is well known to cause bad breath.

I myself have had them. I coughed one up and it looked like a white/greenish ball of something.

See your doctor or an ENT specialist. I'm seeing one to get my tonsils taken out.

Yep, those are tonsil stones.
Do a google search on them, and you'll find all sorts of info on the nasty little buggers!
I started getting them in my late teens, and towards the end (I'm 37) before I got my tonsils out, they were a daily occurance, and were often as big as peas.

Ay Yi Yi. Thanks for the info. I did some research on tonsil stones and some sites (mostly ones with products to sell) tell you that you dont really need to go as far as surgery. Im definitely way too scared to do that. Im a singer and anything that could remotely affect my voice scares the heck out of me. I can honestly say I have good breath (unless im one of those people who you say "oh man, I wish ____________knew they had bad breath" hah so im not sure what to do. I might buy some tablets/sinus drops i saw advertised that promise to do away with them. I have my fingers crossed...

I really think the only way to get rid of them is tonsillectomy. If you have tonsil stones, you have cryptic tonsils.

The tonsil stones are a symptom of a bigger problem that will only get worse, tonsillitis. If you have tonsillitis, then you need a prescription to see if it will clear up. You really need to see an ENT and let him/her advise you.

Re: Tiny white smelly discharge in back of throat HELP!!

I have them too, just not an every day occurence that affects my life. It seems soooo many people have this problem. My ENT didn't recommend surgery unless I get frequent pain which I don't. I just don't mess around with my tonsils anymore and let nature run it's course. It seems since so many of us have this issue you have to wonder after awhile if it is just a normal production of the tonsils..sort of like 'boogers' in the nose you know. See an ENT if you are concerned/curious about them.
