myringotomy with tubes

I am having a myringotomy done next week . where they put tubes in. I am trying to decide between being knocked out while they do it (which costs much more ) or just having it done in the office.(much cheaper) Has anyone had one done in the office and how badly is it going to hurt if i go that route. What exactly is the process and how long does it take. Any advice?
Thanks Jennifer

Re: myringotomy with tubes

Hi Jennifer:

I had this done about a year ago in the office. To be very honest--it was painful--the only thing that does hurt though is when they numb the inside of your ear where the tube is going to be. When he put the tubes in that didnt hurt, just the numbing part---like when you go to the dentist and they numb your mouth for a filling. The whole process probably took 20 minutes or so. So, yes it is painful, but I don't think its painful enough to be put out--it goes so fast, and then youre all done. When you are all done, there is no pain at all. Good luck to you!!!!!
