Bad Pressure/Congestion In Ears (Don't Know Why?)

Alright, I'm currently 20 years old right now, going on 21, and to make a long story short, I have had minor to moderate ear problems my whole life. I have probably had around 25 infections, and 14 sets of tubes ever since I was 3 months old. Now I haven't had an ear infection in a few years, (mainly because, I try not to get my ears wet)

Well, the past few days, I developed the average cold, with runny nose, sore throat, minor cough, but for some reason my ears (both of them) fell really plugged. When I talk, it's kind of muffled and very discomforting. They fell really plugged and congested, however, I don't feel pain, so I'm assuming its not an infection.

My question is: Is this common? How long will it take to go away? and what can I do to relieve the pressure and congestion? Thanks to any replies I get.

Yes, it's common! There's just some fluid in your ears from the cold. Maybe take some decogestants, or antihistamine? That's all I can think of really...

Re: Bad Pressure/Congestion In Ears (Don't Know Why?)

I had the same symptoms - cold, etc. I had to fly home in that condition and my ears got worse. There was fluid in them, and the doctor perscribed Nasonex. I can't take anything else because the other meds can raise your BP. I didn't have an ear infection - no pain. Just annoying. For me, it lasted almost 2 months, but finally, my ears cleared up. You can see an ENT if you don't get any relief from OTC medications. Nasonex is only by perscription.
